Re: What to pair with my pie?

Everyone has given you great advice so far , everyone has their own opinions on what snakes the like and wanna create ..you are the only person who can decide that for yourself ...there are some snakes that are $300 that I find more visualy apealing then some that are $3000 while you may be able to afford anything I suggest getting something that really tickles your fancy bc if it doesnt apeal to YOU the person breeding them then your heart wont be in it and if your heart isnt in it then why do it at all ! If your really not completly sure of what PIED combos u wanna make I would pick up some HETS from a breeder you trust and raise them up by the time you do u may wanna take your project in a diffrent direction and your really not losing that much money , if you do decide to stick with those het projects and they do prove out hopefully you produce a visual female which you can then hold back and breed in a few seasons. But like I said first and foremost pick something YOU love and go for it !

Seeing as your just learning it would serve you well to focus on Genetics for some time. Especially the Recessive Genes since you going to be working with Pied's and they are in fact Recessive.
Also make sure you 100% trust the person you are buying from if your going to use Hets. Nothing worse than not getting what you paid for. Best of Luck!!!

Out of all seriousness though, do what you like. When i made my first big investment (also a pied freak) i did what i loved at the time.. and still do! Picked up a pastel ghost het pied male X ghost het pied female, as well as a pair of enchi het pieds. I loved the potential of the group and lost sleep over waiting for the end result (still not sleeping.. enchi het pied X enchi het pied clutch hatches in Oct

Do what YOU want to do, what YOU want to produce.. maybe find some potential eventually to produce something thats never been done before. Always nice to have big goals!

What to pair with my pie?

Just picked up some coconut husk bedding for all my BP. Anxious to see how the humidity does.

Re: What to pair with my pie?

Besides the Standard Combos, out of which most have been around for a while, it might be worth a thought, to do things, that others avoid. Double Recessive is infact something, a lot of people won't touch. It's more time, and cost involving, you need more patience, and possibly get less "yield". The "But" is, what you do get...

If you spend some time looking into say the Lighting Pieds, Ultramel Pieds or even the Ghost Pied Projects... you soon come to see animals that not many people breed. Another plus here is: you can enter any of these projects at stages, and cost you can afford.

Another aspect is... breeding Piebalds, that look different in terms of colour. There's MANY you'll reconginse as babies, or juvenile animals, but once they reach a certain size/weight a lot of them start to fade, and loose colour...
Anohter aspect is: what's available. Since we've seen the first pictures of Banana/Coral Glow Pieds a few weeks ago: there won't be very many available, since everyone will want to get their hands on het. animals now. Besides: They'll be costing an arm and 2 legs.
Afer all...as everyone keeps telling you... it comes down to taste.

    And since you asked:
YellowBelly or Pumpkin Pieds are a VERY clever choice for breeding Pieds, since they'll be stunning, even as a double or tripple Pied Combo maker..., and this is what they look like:

    Just out of the egg:

And here's the change of colouration I talked about! This is Oliver, the father of the hatchlings obove.... I still know he's a Pumpkin Pied, but you wouldn't, since he lost a lot, of his Baby-Orange/Pumpkin madness!

The best thing you've also been told!!! As a beginner ONLY EVER!!! buy from very trusted breeders. They'll be there for you after you've bought from them, and they'll help, long after the animal is yours....
For all Hobbits share a love for things that grow...

What to pair with my pie?

Invaluable In formation. Oliver is a beautiful boy. I want to do something unique. That's the beauty of morphs. I am crazy about the pied coloration, and combinations. Uniqueness is important, but not to the point that that's all I wanna do . And since I'm still trying to learn and figure out all the genetics, perhaps I should keep it simple.

Re: What to pair with my pie?

As someone who started out in the same way I would recommend getting a breedable female in the near future, as it will help to practice all aspects of breeding husbandry - I found it helped me tune things in considerably.
IMHO if you were to get a nice adult or almost adult morph female now that you are interested in making hets with your Pied male, you could get some serious weight on her and be prepared for his first season.
In the end, it is a dangerous addiction you have entered into... I bought my ex 1 BP as a pet, and I am now feeding around 80 lol
    Good luck!
