View Full Version : Afternoon find
FloridaHogs 07-31-2009, 06:07 PM Went to drop my son off at my parents before heading up to the shop and noticed this guy on the shrubs (actually my daughter did). He was very unafraid and let me get the camera about 10 inches from him before deciding enough was enough. My dad say he hangs out there all the time and likes to watch him while he is doing the shrubs.
Sorry for the quality, my lens kept fogging up.

Cool shots. Your daughter made a great find.
JChandler 07-31-2009, 07:38 PM That last shot is killer!
FloridaHogs 07-31-2009, 07:41 PM I didn't realize I had gotten such a good shot until I posted it. Had to pull the card from my camera and plug it into the laptop to upload it directly. So, I didn't get to look at it first.
Great find. I haven't seen one of those in years. I think I need to move back down state :D.
janeothejungle 07-31-2009, 08:58 PM Nice Shots! He looks awfully comfortable hanging up there.... :yessir:

They're pretty arboreal. I remember as a kid following one along a canopy of sumach. He was above me, of course. I'll bet I followed him for every bit of 20 or 30 yards. All I got out of that deal was an allergic reaction to the sumach.:wamma:
Cool find Jenea . My daughter and I have a running joke about all the sticks.rags and rocks we think are herps when we are driving .

JoshJP7 08-01-2009, 09:24 AM I think the last time I saw a snake here in NY was about 10 years ago haha... It would be pretty cool to go herping down south as the only thing youll find here is a tree rat and some slugs! Nice picture.

Chris 08-01-2009, 04:45 PM Did you grabb it. Those racers are nothing to play with. Those little guys are aggressive and bite like crazy. They remind me of a non venomous Black mamba.
FloridaHogs 08-01-2009, 04:47 PM Nope, thought about it, but I was running late and did not have time.
I have pulled plenty of racers from yards and houses, so I am familiar. That is why I travel with a hook.
ssshane 08-01-2009, 10:25 PM Nice looking racer. I caught my first juvi racer last year, and I didnt know they changed color as much as they do while maturing. Nice find.

Along with sweet timber dens!

SNSnakes 08-02-2009, 09:59 PM Neat find! Thanks for somebody IDing the snake. I was pretty sure it was a racer, but I first had to think where you found it and look at it a bit. Cool pics at any rate.
