View Full Version : Lavender Albino
JoshJP7 11-04-2008, 10:29 AM I will be looking to pick up a Lavender Albino next season and would like to know the difference between normal Albinos and LA's. I know LA's look more purple when they get older but how do you know when you're buying an LA that is isn't just a normal albino? Does anyone have the two that they could post pictures of so I can see the difference? I know the best way to make sure you get what you pay for is to buy from a reputable breeder but I'd like to hear what everyone else thinks... Post the pics people:rockon:

That would be a dream.. I do hope to produce a couple. I've got a shot at two clutches maybe three so we'll see..
You could drop one LA in a tub of 1000 regular albinos and you will know it immediately......
JasonGonzalez 11-04-2008, 02:13 PM I'm not really a BP kind of guy (yet ;)), so this is the only pic I have to offer. This is a Lavender albino next to a Het. Lavender and in the display to the right is a Clown. I took this pic at the NARBC in Arlington two years ago.

ROTFL You took the words right outta my mouth. Your going to be getting one and don't know what they look like. Thats alot of money to spend.
:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
JoshJP7 11-04-2008, 04:29 PM I know what they look like I've just seen some LA babies that didnt look much different than a normal albino. When they are alone and not next to a normal albino it's not as obvious... atleast to me

some are subtle, some are blastin' different right out of the gate.
buy from larry, and don't sweat it, you'll get what you paid for.

Thats my plan... I've seen the LA hes produced and its the real deal. As long as he pops out a male and is willing to let him go I'm scooping him
CBMorphs 11-05-2008, 12:22 PM I have never seen an LA in person, but some of the pictures I have seen I can tell right away that it is an LA, but others look like a normal albino to me. If I were to buy one, I would want to buy one that looks extreme (a lot of lavender.) IMO, it’s sort of like the difference between a browned out pastel, or a really yellow one.

Not to offend anyone, but to me the picutre above looks like a normal albino with a stuck shed on its head.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who sometimes cant tell the difference... best bet is to buy from someone reputable.
Chimpkin 11-05-2008, 01:49 PM It's just like anything else! There are some worth paying for and some that aren't. Personally the only reason I would ever want to own a Lav. would be for the combos. No offense to Larry, or anybody that has lavs, but they just aren't different enough for me to drop 10K.
JoshJP7 11-05-2008, 02:02 PM My intentions are for Lav Clowns... They've dropped quite a bit since the 10k days... ive seen em for 5-6k a couple places.
Larry 11-05-2008, 04:42 PM There is no comparison between a normal albino and a Lavender albino. The problem is, it's difficult to capture the lavender and the glow through still images. The flash washes everything out, thats why I posted the video instead.
Lavenders go through a couple different color changes, all while getting better with age. Unlike any other ball python morph.
Lavenders hatch out with lots of lavender color.. That first phase of lavender color changes quickly as the animal grows. Once they hit about 400grams the glow comes into play. I'm talking a glow that will hurt your eyes, I've also got that on a youtube video as well. After the glow and once the animals reaches right about 800grams or more the deep lavender color starts to come in, some quicker than others and vice versa.
My personal experience is that the deep lavender color seems to come in quicker with the females than males.
Keep in mind even during the earlier stages the lavender color is still there is just not the deep lavender which really sets the morph apart.
Even in the early stages the LA blows all else away..
Just my 2cents..

Then annie up mofo..
Tosha 11-05-2008, 05:21 PM While I'm not a huge fan of the Lav - there is a noticeable difference in the way even the babies glow as compared to the normal albino. What I'd like to know is if there is a line that has a deeper purple coloring to it or if there is a way to selectively breed for it -- that might be a project I'd go for.
wolfyhound 11-05-2008, 05:27 PM I'm sure there are LA that look like reg albinos. I'd say check out the snakes that are for sale, get pics or videos. Or.. just get some of Larry's, you can see in his video that his LA are top-notch!
I'm not a huge fan of albinos, but LA are so stunning, that they make me think harder about them as a project.

Thanks for the info Larry. Like I said, I have never seen one in person. I have seen some that look awesome in pictures, and many others that look like a normal albino. For this reason, I beleive that not all LA's are created equal. If I were going to drop 6K on an animal, I would want to make sure that it is top notch.
All I can say once you have one in your hand you will understand COMPLETELY! I have seen some variation in them but not a lot.......
CBMorphs 11-07-2008, 08:56 AM I found a comparison picture of a lavender albino and a normal albino. Here is the link: http://www.constrictors.com/Collection/BallPythons/LavenderAlbinoBallPython.html The comparison shot is the middle picture in the bottom row.
