My Creamscicle clutch has begun to hatch. Unfortunately for some unknown reason many of the eggs in this clutch went bad during incubation. This clutch was incubated exactly like the others so I don't know what happened.

Now this is strange. Early on in the incubation this growth of fungus appeared on this one egg. It is nothing like the kind of mold that is usually seen on eggs when they go bad. I left it alone just to see what would happen. Well, that particular egg has pipped and as far as I can tell, the hatchling inside looks good. Wierd.

I had albino prairie king eggs with that same look. Only one of my females laid round eggs with the discolored band just like that----11 eggs and 10 hatched out, perfectly. The other female laid the all white oblong eggs.

I hope that I don't find this very often. This is a definite first for me:

http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa236/jguyer1/P81900011.jpg

My Creamscicles are still hatching and I found a partially digested regurgitated Cream in the box. One of the others had to have grabbed and eaten a sibling just as soon as it came out of the egg! I have no idea who the culprit is, but we've got a cannibal Corn!

It looks like I started quite the discussion about this incident over on Kingsnake.com forums.

I am starting to lean heavily towards the idea that this was not an incident of cannabilism and regurgitation but rather an incident of a not formed twin being drug out of the egg by a fully formed sibling.

The smell that is normally associated with regurgitation was not present.

I can't be 100% sure either way, but this was a first for me.

kare
08-20-2009, 08:46 PM
well there is no mistaking the smell of a regurg.....putrid is close....LMAO could be the twin theory, it sounds entirely possible.....

The clutch from my quad het female has finished hatching and I've sorted out the babies. I'm happy to report that we got 18 hatchlings out of 18 eggs in this clutch. Also, the Normal Male that I bred to the quad het is now a known het Amel.

The funny thing is the Amels that came out of this pairing. They are bright orange and look like Creamscicles but there is no Emoryi blood present. These are pure Corn.

I was really afraid that people wouldn't believe that these are pure corn and not Creams. The fact that I have a Creamscicle clutch hatching at the same time sure doesn't help my credibility here. I don't have a clue what's going to happen to the colors in these 'Orange Amels' as they mature. I'm going to hold back a few just to see. Also in the future I will cross these into other bloodlines to see if the different coloration has any effect on the designer morphs.

I think that my Creamscicle clutch and maybe the first Bloodred clutch has finished hatching..at least it looked like it when I walked by them this morning. I'll get baby pile pics and get them sorted after I get out of bed later today.

Thanks for the comments.

Had a run of bad luck with the Creamscicles.

Only 7 out of 20 eggs even hatched. Of those, not one, but two of them drug unformed twins out of the egg with them. Then one of the seven was found dead today for no apparant reason. Then of the remaining six, five of them were deformed with bellies not together and guts coming out. One of those even already had maggots up inside the abdominal cavity while it was alive. Those five became Kingsnake food and I ended up with only one healthy looking baby out of the whole mess.

I don't think that I'll pair that male with that female ever again.

Unfortunately though it has a bit of a spine kink. I'm going to hold onto it for a bit and see if it grows out of it.

We still have one more clutch of possible Lavender Mots to go that should start popping at any time and also a couple of doubleclutches. I hatched Lavender Motleys last year and we will get them again this year!

The clutch from my Silverqueen has been hatching. I bred her to one of the Ghosts from my own line.

http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa236/jguyer1/P9010001.jpg

The babies are coming out looking just Anerytheristic. I'm going to have to wait until they shed a couple of times to see what their colors are going to do and if the Hypomelanism comes out. If they stay just Anery and no Hypo is visible then doesn't that mean that I bred two different forms of Hypomelanism together?

I'm afraid that I may have taken my Ghost line a step backwards with this project but we'll have to wait and see.

Also, the second clutch of the Lavender Motley project has begun to hatch.
