have been reading a lot of stuff regarding our beloved National Health service
lately via newspapers and tv
Just wanted to give a different perspective from the UK side.
I was born in 1962, delivered by an nhs midwife at home, no probs -)
I had my wisdom teeth removed in hospital under a general, no probs there.
A couple of years ago i suffered a brain haemorrage, within minutes of my wife calling 999 (911) we had a medic on a motorbike in the house, a few minutes after that, we had an ambulance.
I was taken to my local hospital, which has a specialist neuro unit, probably one of the best in the uK.
I was unconcious for 7 days, most of which was spent in the high dependancy unit of the hospital, i woke up 7 days leter and had no clue what had happened to me.
It took 3 months of r n r to get myself back to normal, throughout this time the hospital was there for me, regular check ups, tests etc.
Had it not been for the ambulance staff, theatre staff and aour great nurses, i'd almost certainly be dead.
Not to mention our cats, as i collapsed in front of my pc,our cats ran upstairs to my wife, and realising something was wrong, ran down to check on me, and found me out for the count , on the floor.
My parents both suffered from various illnesses toward the ends of their lives, my mum especially, and the care she recieved from the nhs was 2nd to none.
For the last 5 years of her life, she was in hospital pretty much every 6months, for stays of 2-10 days.
In the end she had enough and passed peacefully, with all of her family by her side.
Our system is very different to yours, but it does work well for us.
Storys of folks glueing teeth in with superglue are scaremongering in my opinion, if i need dental care, i book an appointment, and get seen pretty damn fast.
I have a good friend in Vegas, who came over here to work for a few years, she had all of her dntal work completed here, as while working and paying taxes, was entitled to it, she is a pure republican and to be honest was pretty impressed
I don't normally post in this section, but felt i had to stick up for the institution that saved my life.
