I really like the part with Marc Bailry talking about his rodent setup, how about getting like Brian from ARS, RodentPro, or Mice Direct on a show to see how they do it on a LARGE scale.

ARS won't work....they don't produce their own rodents. I like the idea of a rodent show though.

Just a bump..I still think its a great idea for a show.

Any chance of getting Mice Direct or Loxahatchee Rodents on here?

Could cover a lot of topics from size of groups to how to setup groups for only pinks/pups for baby season.

I think it'd be great to hear from some of the rodent producers and hear how they go about running their businesses! Definitely a growing business now too with more and more people keeping more and more reptiles.

This sounds interesting to me. It's hard to find good information on breeding your own rodents.

What about feeder insects. I love the idea of a feeder themed show. So what about a show about cultivating your own feeder insects?

I personally raise 4 species of rodents and 5 species of insects for my own use but I realize most keepers dont. The economic benefits of raising your own feeders are huge for those who have the space or desire to do it.

Anway, it would be usefull information to many listeners I would think.

Yes!

I absolutely HATE rats...but came to the conclusion early on the key to quality production is quality rodents. The more of the process I can control the better, and there's only one guy to blame! Would love to learn more about how to do it smarter.

I used to frequent the monitor forum on KS long ago and there was a guy on there by the name of Mike Stefani (I believe?) and he used to keep various species of monitors and also he was the "go to" guy to ask questions about feeder insects. I do not know Mike personally (maybe someone else here does?) that would kill two birds with one stone - since we've also has previous requests for monitor shows.

As far as rodents, Mark Bailey comes to mind and so does Dan Wolfe. He had a few nice blogs on his page dedicated to rodents and his setup looked real clean and professional. Both of those guys seem to take pride in their rodent stock.......and I think its no coincidence that they both produce some bada$$ snakes!

Gerbils?

And I echo the cries for a feeder based show. I really would like to start my own rat colony.

Actually its dwarf hamsters. You can breed them communally. I keep the mice, ask, and dwarf hamsters all in my mouse rack and they all do great.

I find it usefull to have a varierty of rodents, particularily when getting neonates started. Most of the ball python guys here are a bit spoiled, in that balls, virtually always start feeding on mice with no trouble. I breed a dozen different python and boa species and some of the babies can be really tough to get feeding. Having 4 different species of pinks and fuzzies is really usefull!

I would like to get a few more rodent species, anyone know where I can get lab strain deer mice?
