I've been thinking of running for local office lately. Even though I despise most politicians, I'm really thinking I can make a difference, and spread the concepts of responsibility, American Values and a belief that our constitution is probably the greatest document that has ever or will ever be written and needs to stay that way. We can't have judges legislating from the bench or "breaking free from the constraints of the constitution" as Obama says. Sputnik 11-05-2008, 01:27 PM "breaking free from the constraints of the constitution" as Obama says. Wow, nice..... what constraints? I thought if it has been working as long as it has now.... then? luciddream 11-05-2008, 01:44 PM Wow, nice..... what constraints? I thought if it has been working as long as it has now.... then? One would think.. However, a quote from a 2001 interview with Obama, he says: "The tragedy of the civil rights movement was that the courts didn't break free from the constraints placed upon them by the constitution and the founding fathers." He goes on to say that more focus also should have been put on legislation for social and economic justice. Those are the things that scare the crap out of me with a man that is likely to appoint more than 1 justice to the supreme court and wants to hold a constitutional convention. McCain sure wasn't my ideal candidate, but was by far more in line with my thinking than Obama. It seems that even though we all have the right to vote, we also have the OBLIGATION to know what we are voting for. If you just look at Obama's speeches, you'd think he was a fiscal conservative. Not many, especially the media, bothered to look into his background to see what his foundations and true beliefs were. |
