One of my last assignments was in Hawaii with the 3 Bn, 7th FA, 25th ID Light. Some of my best friends there were Fisters (I called them Sisters!). Couldnt ask for a crazier bunch of guys to party with in Waikiki or watch your back while on patrol!

You jump outta planes??? http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff315/QuigsPlace/slapsforhead.gif well, somebodys gotta do it. right?

I'm kiddin' I have the utmost respect for a man who can jump out of a plane more than once. I know several airborne types. Good men every one. Mostly Nam era though.

I'm a Nam Vet, '69-'71. In country '70-'71. Quang Tri, South Vietnam. I was with the 5th Inf. (mech)HHC company, 1/77th armor, scout platoon 11D. Was a dirty job, but somebody hadda do it.

For those who are reading, and may not know, a "fister" is a member of the "Fire Support Team" FST. Add an "I "and you have fist. Fisters are the forward observers. I am only explaining this because I used to have a shirt that said "Rock hard fister" and had a beig metal glove like a knight would wear making a fist. That is the symbol for the fisters. I didn't think much of it because I was around it all the time, but when I got out and wore that shirt back home, one of my best friends was like "Dude, I love that shirt. You're such a sick pervert". Had nothing to do with what he thought it meant though.

3rd Infantry Brigade @ Ft Benning Ga
Big Red 1 @ Ft Riley KS

Been out about 10 years but had 4 yrs 4 months 13 days active duty and made Spc before I got out. Had Combat Lifesaver , Brigade NBC & Platoon Demolitions under my belt. Not a lot but looked good for the promotion board if I had gotten that far.

that's 'cause he's serving with pride for a just cause, getting the support he needs to do his job right, and being treated with the respect he deserves. i hope these guys don't get the high hard one like alot of our nam vets got when this is finally over.
thanx for servin' quig. i was a pup while you were over there, but through the years have had the pleasure of workin' with plenty of nam vets. some of them had their souls stripped out of them by the betrayal they faced when they came back, great guys , hard workin' guys, i hope our boys over there now don't get the same "royal treatment" from the commander in chief to be.
God bless them all,

If any current GI gets disrespected within eye sight or ear shot of a Nam Vet they'll get an arse whuppin' they won't soon forget.

We've made a vow to NEVER let what happened to us happen to another vet.

Fortunately most airport incedences now are positive not negative.

My dad was in Nam for 18 months with CCCV as a Green Beret. I was made in a hotel room in Hawaii during his first 30 day leave and he got his notification of my birth while at a firebase with his SF unit.

For those that don't know , CCCV = Command & Control Central Viet Nam.

The old fart ( my dad ) is an absolute patriot and loves his country. Even now with a pacemaker/defibrillator if his country called he'd put on a uniform and jump in the thickest of it. I'd be right there with him , knees duct taped and killing folks cuz I can't get an ice cold Dr. Pepper.

When he came home from Nam , he was asked to put on civvies before going through the airport. He told them to go **** themselves and any SOB willing to spit on his uniform was a SOB willing to put their life in his hands.

I only had one bad experience with a lady in SeaTac airport. I was sitting on my duffle bag in uniform outside the airport having a smoke. I know I looked like crap because my uniform had holes in it from my rucksack hanging on the outside of the hummer and the haji's shooting at us as we drove by. Bullet holes in everything... Anyway, I had been flying for 24 hours and was tired as hell. This woman walked up to me and asked where I was coming from. I told her Iraq. She said "How many women and kids did you kill while you were there?" I said "As many as it took for me to come home lady." She started screaming at me calling me a killer and I was going to hell. A security guard came running over and almost tackled the woman and they led her off in handcuffs. The chief of security came out and apologized to me. It didnt really bother me but what if this had happened to a younger, already emotionally scarred young troop? Freaking crazy **** I only had a small taste of what the Vietnam vets went through... again, we all owe you guys a sincere welcome home and apology....

Everybody I ever talked to that was there during Desert Storm and the troops I've talked to that have been involved in Iraqi Freedom have ALL said , don't go by the media. The media has graciously picked thru the films & stories to drag out the worst for sensationalism. Want to know what its really like? Ask a soldier thats been there.

ignorant people who are spoon fed what they believe is true annoy me. The ones who have never been over there, shot at, blown up, watch a friend get hit by a sniper and then give you hell as if they know what goes on over there should refer to byrons boas punishment over and over till they see the light.

Here is what my dad & his buddies do on their free time. All of them are retired military and refuse to let an American soldier of any kind be forgotten. Everything has been collected , bought and refurbished out of their own pockets. They are filing for the proper tax code as a non profit / museum and run this place every Saturday on donations and make up any shortages out of pocket.
