View Full Version : The TRUTH!
African Beast 11-07-2008, 02:18 AM Well we have done politics so let’s jump right into the next nice fuzzy topic.
What is your religious belief? Who of you are Christians?
I don’t want to know the reason or have a debate, just want to know?
In or Out, Heaven or Hell, what did you chose?
The Beast: On my way to heaven on all fours.

I'm a God fearing Southern man myself...:yessir:...I mean look around you - How could you not believe in God...?
Varanus99 11-07-2008, 07:09 AM Ooo tough question. Ill try to answer without offending anybody.
I was raised Roman Catholic. My mother is a eucharistic minister of her church. My grandmother has more statues of Jesus than the Vatican.
I grew up going to church, believing in God, etc. Then in my early twenties I started to question my faith. Long story, dont even want to get into it. Onward.
As I got a little older I returned to my beliefs and the church. I had a life changing event that opened my eyes. So yes I do believe in God, Jesus, the Holy Trinity.
Aside from faith there is another aspect that makes me believe. Ive always been a science buff. It's just too hard for me to accept that our entire universe is a random event. That there was no designer. The fact that the planets revolve in a set pattern, the tide comes in and out, the complexity of the human eye, the miracle of life. I just cant accept that order came from chaos. I believe there is a divine being. Call him what you will. But I believe in a higher power.
Now, Im not a creationist. I do believe in evolution. I believe that some of the stories in the Old Testament are meant to teach a lesson and not be taken literally. But whether we evolved from amoebas or just appeared running around in the Garden of Eden I do believe there was a power guiding us along the way.
Ill share one story then Ill shut up. When I was a little boy I was told to pray. Pray to God and everything will be ok. Well, sometimes I prayed and I didnt get what I wanted. I was probably around 8 years old or so at the time. So I asked a priest "Father, how come even if I pray really hard I dont always get what I want? Does God listen?"
And he said "Yes, my son. He listens. But sometimes the answer is no"
Never forgot that.
Ok Im done. Hope I didnt upset anyone. These are just my beliefs and I have total respect for the beliefs of others.

Uh oh reminds me of a joke. OFF TOPIC!
A guy was sadly sitting in Hell. A demon walks by and says "Why the long face?"
The guy says "Well, Im in Hell!!"
The demon says " Ya know, its really not that bad here. Say, you a drinkin' man?"
The guy answers "Sure I love to drink!"
The demon says "Oh good. Every Tuesday we all get together and get tanked. The best beer, wine and whiskey you ever tasted. And you're dead so you never get sick!"
The guys "That sounds great!"
And the demon goes on "You smoke?"
Guy says "Yeah I smoke"
Demon says "Ah. Well, on Wednesday we have a smoking party. The finest tobacco you ever had. And no worries of lung cancer any more"
Guy says "Awesome!"
Demond says "Hey uhhh...you do drugs at all?"
Guys says "Well, ya I party a little"
Demon says "I see. Thursday we all get totally wasted on coke, pills, weed, whatever you want. And you cant get addicted or OD here!"
Guys says "Man! This places sounds amazing!"
Demon says "Yeah. By the way, are you gay?"
Guy says "Um, no Im not"
Demon shakes his head and says "Oh boy. You're really gonna hate Fridays!"

Not to worry, I've been there, they have. Hope you don't mind Irish .
On a more serious note, I was born and raised Baptist. Scared Hell outta me till I was about 15. Lost my faith all together in Nam. Dabbled in different relions up to and including Wiccan for many years in search of something that made real sense. Settled on a cross between Christianity and Native American beliefs. I believe in a higher power but my sience oriented mind can't grasp that one being "created " all this. Now if all this is confusing you know where I'm at. After 58 years on the planet I'm still not sure just what to think. I just do a day at a time and hope for the best, and hope that when my time comes understanding will come with it.

StudentoftheReptile 11-07-2008, 08:51 AM I was born and raised in a Christian home, but never really comprehended everything until I was in my teens. That is when I first recieved salvation.
I kinda lost my way during college, and right now, I am still trying to find my way back to God.
I suppose for all practical purposes, I am a Christian; I just really don't prefer the title because of the bad stereotype associated with it. I'm also not religious at all, which sometimes blows people's minds.
I am not a fundamentalist either, and do not interpret everything I find in the Bible as literal. I do believe in creation and I also believe in evolution. There is evidence for both. However, I do not believe we came from apes (there is not enough evidence that proves that).
Being a "true" Christian is not about going to church, reading your bible, and believing in God. To be honest, Satan does all those things himself.
It is about realizing God is God and you are not; realizing that you are not perfect, and you will make mistakes. But God is in control no matter what (even when we have presidents like the one this country just elected), and that He just wants to be closer to you. The other stuff is superfluous and will fall into place when you draw nearer to HIm.

BryonsBoas 11-07-2008, 12:08 PM I don't believe nor have faith and trust in organized religion. I believe in God , Almighty Being whatever you want to call it and talk to it / them when I feel the need and where ever I choose.
Tosha 11-07-2008, 12:20 PM I guess I'm a Lapsed Catholic -- the faith is there but I'm not a big fan of the church so I don't practice on a regular basis - mostly the major observances.

luciddream 11-07-2008, 12:47 PM Hmm.. Well, my dad was raised jewish, my mother has been probably every denomination of christianity that has ever existed..
I was never really raised as a certain religion. When I was 12, I was forced to go to hebrew school so that I could learn to read hebrew and have a bar mitzvah. I had my bar mitzvah, never went back to temple. While a teenager, I really questioned religion, mostly because of alot of the hypocrisy I saw in people that I knew that were religious.
Now that I'm older and wiser, and because of the studies of all the different religions I did while a teenager trying to see what appealed to me, I do believe in a higher power. I believe in a god. I think it's probably the same one that most other religions believe in, but call by different names. I don't believe that the christian bible was to be taken literally, I believe that the holy books of most religions were inspired by this higher power, and written by men in a way that would be understood by men at the time. We all now know that the Earth revolves around the sun, and I think the people that try to come up with theories on how the sun revolves around the earth because a passage in the bible states that god made the sun stand still instead of saying that he made it appear that the sun stood still, are kind of silly.
I prefer to think of myself as spiritual instead of following any certain religion, since, as far as I see it, more conflicts and wars have been started over religion that any other thing. The most terrible things in history have been committed in the name of a religion and it seems terrible to me, especially when alot of religions are very similar. The big three religions, are actually based on the same principles and even the same god. It makes no sense to me that there is all this fighting over something that should unite people instead of driving them apart.
Anyways, that's my take on the subject.

JoshJP7 11-07-2008, 02:08 PM I was raised a catholic my whole life... did the whole first communion and confirmation thing. My mom only brought us to church on christmas and easter so I thought it was kinda hypocritical of me to go on these two dates and say I do all this stuff when really I never did.
I kind of have my own religion now... It's a mix of Native American beliefs and evolution. I believe that if you take care of the earth and do right by the planet you will go to something similar to "heaven."
JChandler 11-07-2008, 08:08 PM I could just tell you all that this year I am going to be praying to the boa and ball gods if that will help....

I don't even know half the terms for religious events, proceedings or what is what or who is wearing what for who while doing what about who and when it be done by who to thy for whatever reason.... doesn't mean I don't believe!
The one thing I do know is it's a great subject that no one ever argues about....
jasballs 11-07-2008, 08:31 PM I dont beleive in any of it.. And dont waist my time thinking about it either.. Your born then you die. Whats so hard about that?
