Hi guys. This is probably the only time you will see me in the snake section (yup, I'm a lizard person), but a friend of mine who is a breeder (other types of snakes) asked if I knew anyone keeping/breeding these guys besides Vin Russo and Rio Bravo (apparently they wont answer his emails). Looking around, it looks like some of you might?? So, a question...how big/old does a female have to be to breed her? He told me she is 3, but did not give me a weight. He is just worried about her being too small, and would rather hold off if she is not ready rather than hurting her. The male is fine, he is just worried about the female size.
Thanks for the info in advance!

I've never bred a Boa before so I can't really give you an answer from experience...I have heard and read that a lot of people give females 4 years before they breed them...I'm sure some of these other Boa guys can help you a lot more than I can...

I've kept Corn Islands in years past.
You can keep them much as you would Colombians.

Females should be at least three years old (four is preferable).
Size should also be a consideration, as depending upon your feeding regime,
a three year old could still be undersized.

Males are generally ready by two (dependent also upon size).

If you (or your friend) have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Yep as others said, three years is the MINIMUM i would ever suggest breeding a female, and ONLY if she has the proper weight ( though age is more important than weight, in boas, i feel)

Dont overfeed boas to get them to size, it wont help you any.

Great answers, thanks! The main question I guess is what IS the correct weight? I think he will hold off until next year if necessary, no problem there, his main concern is making sure she is big enough when the time comes.
I am posting for him basically because he's an old guy who doesn't like computers, much less trying to keep up with forums, so I traded the responsibility for the promise of a back rub at the next show LOL.
