What a great weekend these little guys have made for us here (Manouria emys emys aka Burmese/SE Asian Brown Mountain Tortoise). This years clutch was pretty small, but the hatch rate was good at 26 for 28 eggs this season. My favorite pic is the last one... look at that egg tooth! YEOW! :) I'm always in awe of how 'primitive' this species is. Their eggs start out soft almost like a python egg, harden up a bit over the next 4 weeks or so, then soften again the last couple weeks of incubation. When the babies pip out, the egg shells are soft and nearly paper thin! Amazing to me...

Hope you enjoy!

Matt

The first couple pics of them still in the egg looks like their thinkin' " pleez don't woke me up." I love the egg tooth shot also.

Thanks, folks! Much appreciated. Unfortunately, one baby died in egg. Looks like it had trouble overall, so it was probably for the best. Yeah, I'm with you Diana... an incubator full of baby torts is always a good (cute?!) thing! :)

Thanks again-

Matt
