Hey all-

I'm looking into starting a small (<6) collection of probably carpets and I am wondering if I need to go into the hassle of heat tape and therms, or if UTH's are good enough. Also, I want them to be display animals, and so I don't want to go broke on cages. All advice/tips appreciated!

I would use heat tape and t-stats over UTH anyday. As you can control the temps.

Good luck

Thanks, Rick, but what about stacking? Does there need to be space between cages? Sorry if these are basic, but I've only ever kept one snake at a time and always used lamps.:yourock:

you can still use a t-stat or rheostat with a uth, and you probably should.
i've used just 'bout everything and found that they can all be fine just make sure they're properly sized, and check everything periodically to make sure all's well.
good luck,

I prefer UTH's also. Using a UTH and stacking is actually a good thing as you get heat from the top and bottom of the cage, smae as with racks. As stated before, get your setup running for a week or so checking the temps to be sure everything is stable before you put any animals in. Hope this helps!
