Has anyone tired this. Many years ago when I was breeding mice I had 20 tubs setup 1.5 and I put dust free kitty litter in the front corners of the tubs and the mice would pee in the front corner and it would keep the smell down. I was wondering if anyone else tired this?

Thats interesting. I've never heard of it but, I've got mine on aspen and they always pee in the front corners too.

I only have a few mice colonies. I used to try all the little tips and tricks but I've found that nothing works better than just cleaning them a little early, some nice fresh pine does wonders.

Keep in mind that I keep my rodents in the garage so it isn't a huge issues. If I were keeping them in the house I'd be doing everything possible but that'll never happen again. Rodents inside the home is a big no no imo..

Mine use the corners no matter what I use as bedding.

By using the kitty litter in the corners it helps to keep the smell down. The price of the kitty litter was pertty cheap back in 1990-1993 when I kept a large group. Like Larry said if you are keeping them in a garage or barn then the 6th and 7th days on the bedding is no big deal because you will be changing them on the 7th day.

I use to keep them under the sink. lol

I think the cheapest would be shreeded newpaper/bills/unwanted paper. But then again it doesnt keep the smell down. lol.

Im starting on a colony, using pine too.

You can say that again.... I'm grounded from purchasing any more snakes until I get a shed built in the back yard to get the damn rat colony out of the house. Saving my pennies... I'm almost there............ :wamma:

Tried it with the ASF and they just buried it. Cleaning cages tomorrow so I'll add some kitty litter and see what happens since they REALLY stink.

My mice seem to use the corners as well. I have found changing the litter more often works about the best for me.
