I had a few of those many years. Bred them for two years. I remember even the hatchlings being voracious eaters. Right after that first shed WHAM and it was nonstop from then on.

Most kings are pretty good eaters. A couple can be a bit finicky but most are chow hounds. These guys, however, at least in my experience are in a class by themselves. Mine would eat, poop a day or two later and be ready to eat again. They would launch themselves out of the cage at the first sign of food.

And yes Ive worn one on my finger more than once :). Funny thing about these guys when they grab a finger they will actually try to eat you. Kinda like "Im a chicken hawk and you're my chicken. Now you gonna come along quietly or do I have to muss ya up?".

Great snakes. Sharp looking and so easy to keep its ridiculous. You have to shoot them to kill them. Id call them a good beginner snake with just a couple of caveats. First, the whole feeding response might freak out a new keeper and sometimes they are a bit flighty even for a kingsnake.

they are crazy! How do they live in the wild? seems like they would try and eat a coyote or something! ;)

I picked up a trio awhile back that were maintenance fed and supposed to be yearlings, well after a bit of a battle I finally got them to eat almost every week (I can't stand it when people do that crap) and then I got a pair from Scott this october and wow night and day difference...I really think if I offered them a small rat they would give it there best go even if they are under 24"....

OK I gotta ask -- who took the picture -- it is stunningly clear and just altogether a beautiful picture -- I'm not sure I could pull that off even with the smallest of snakes attached to a digit.

That really is a nice clear pic of a Mexican black doing what comes natural. I like the way you can pick out every scale.
