Steven_Kelley 11-11-2008, 10:29 AM Well this 07' girl will definitely be bred... wether she likes it or not! LOL! We're going to try to get the black pastel het pied male to show some interest in her but ether way my proven breeder pastel male will definitely get his... He'll breed a stick if you put it in with him... Kinda funny but he makes me proud that he never gives up or stops tryin! :lmao: luciddream 11-11-2008, 12:02 PM I won't be breeding any 07 females. I'd rather wait till next season and get them bigger and more mature. I'd much rather wait till next season than risk a female having complications from breeding too young. I know people do it, and are successful at it, it's just my preference to wait till they've got the age and the weight. JoshJP7 11-11-2008, 12:34 PM I won't be breeding any 07 females. My clown is at 1300g but I'd rather her pack on the extra weight and give me a big healthy clutch next yr over risking it this year for 3-4 eggs. BT 11-11-2008, 12:34 PM I have two 07 females I'll consider breeding later in the season...A Mojave and a sweet ass Orange Hypo...I'd probably put a Lesser or Lesser Bee to the Mojo and if the Champagne goes - He'd go with her...But to be honest - I'll probably give them another year - Well the Mojave anyway - The Hypo girl is a beast...:yessir: k-arbogast 11-11-2008, 12:38 PM I have 4 '07 pastel females that I will give a shot this year. They are at 1800, 1500, 1500, 1000 grams. The 1000 gram girl is iffy, but I generally don't start breeding until January so she still has time. Plus I don't change the temp on my heat tape and I feed them through the breeding season. If they are ready they will go, if not then try again next year. Here is my 1800 gram '07 Pastel holdback http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll218/arbogastpythons/pastel/P1295827.jpg This is my buddies Fire male that will be visiting with my girls this year. She has refused food at the last two feedings so I might have to pick up that fire male a little sooner than I planned. I will keep you guys updated. I think with 5 to 6 pastel females in the mix we should have a good shot at some Fireflys. Steven_Kelley 11-11-2008, 02:53 PM Firefly's definitely rock but some Banded Firefly's would really kick ass! :) Jason 11-11-2008, 02:54 PM that pastel is smoking... Alan rabernet 11-11-2008, 05:56 PM Question for those who have bred young females that were up to weight. I've been told - though I don't know how accurate this information is - that the "risk" with breeding younger females is that they "commit" to smaller clutches for the rest of their productive years. Does anyone have any experience of a younger female giving say - four eggs in their first clutch and never giving much more than six eggs after that? IF that theory is true, that's reason enough for me to wait for my females to not only be up to weight, but be more mature. Rick247 11-11-2008, 06:32 PM Looks as if the one with my pastel male has Hit the big Ovulation looking at her just now. I sure hope so. Larry 11-13-2008, 05:06 PM All my 18month old girls all laid pretty decent clutches 6-7 eggs so I can't say whether they hold true to the smaller clutches. This year I have a couple 07' 50% het lavenders females that have the weight, I'll monitor them for development, if they start to development I'll breed them, if they don't show signs, I won't. jasballs 11-13-2008, 05:30 PM Question for those who have bred young females that were up to weight. While this may be true as far as small older females(that never grow) It is false with younger females. They tend to have 1-2 more each year as far as I see it here. earthpig23 11-13-2008, 05:35 PM While this may be true as far as small older females(that never grow) It is false with younger females. They tend to have 1-2 more each year as far as I see it here. i agree. they may not lay large clutches at first being young but they don't tend to stay small as they get larger. I believe for the most part clutch sizes are always a combo of female size, maturity and amount of breedings. I may be wrong though I am no expert. my first time breeding BPs the female had never bred before and was 6 years old and huge. she laid 7 perfect eggs DanielA989 11-13-2008, 06:25 PM I have a question. When breeding these females at 18 months do you find more 1-3 eggs or 4-6 small eggs? I have heard that they will lay smaller eggs resulting in small hatchlings? grunt_11b2007 11-13-2008, 06:32 PM While this may be true as far as small older females(that never grow) It is false with younger females. She was about 980+ g's just before she laid and gave us 4 good eggs and 1 slug... We allowed her to maternally incubate All 4 in a cb70 and they all hatched and were 100% healthy... She's still pounding food, so I think she'll get there... and by that time she'll be 20 months old or so...she's on the same track my lemon pastel girl was this last season. Gotta give it a go for a BEL! Wildmorph Pythons 11-18-2008, 08:59 AM I am hoping that my 07 Het Pied female goes for me. would be nice to hit some pieds. :D Deborah 11-18-2008, 09:50 AM No 07 females (I don’t have any) but last season I bred three 06 females (all 18 months at the time of the pairings) one was 1400 and gave me 4 eggs the other were 2000 grams and gave me 7 eggs each. |
