I lvoe their size and attitude as younguns. Most of them grow out of it though and become big ol squirmy worms. I had a rusty too but he wouldnt stay in the tub with the others....

Black rats are awesome snakes! The fact that they are native is really cool too....always found them as a kid and seeing people keep them and have morphs is just awesome!

I have this one guy. He was mellow as a baby , but his strong feeding response has given him a bit of an attitude. He seems to think everything is food and is never full.

i caught them by the hand full as a kid and had a few as pets. they were fun animals to have. alot more mild tempered then the black racers we used to catch.

 I know those type. Had a few of those too. I have yet to find a black rat that refuses to eat!

I learned real quick that racers are meaner than Texas rats! Caught lots of both when I was a kid..... still have some scars to prove it! :lmao:

No lie!!!!! ain't nothing like picking up a board and at first glance you think you found a nice black rat...when actually it's a racer....I had one that when I was younger it raised up and looked me at me level eye to eye....Now that was when I was 10 or so.....but still I learned real quick to proceed with caution and treat each as a racer till I knew for sure it was a normal black rat

I love "all" rat snakes...I do not currently have any black rats...I do have several Texas and some intergrade rats.

My favorite snake native to NJ is the black racer, and sadly I have none of those either.

Black rats are awesome snakes!!

I do have a nice gray rat snake my friend sent me from Alabama, looks like he/she may be a natural intergrade between a black and gray, it's from an intergradtion(sp) zone so who knows, it makes a Texas rat look timid LOL!!

Don't have any currently but I do love the lucy rats. The only reason I don't have one yet is it's so dang hard to find the ones that don't have big old bug eyes. Nice looking whiteside there Ron!
