Here are some pics of the cage that I moved my Ornate to. The dimensions are 16 feet by 4 feet by 6 feet tall, the basking shelf is 8 feet by 2 feet. In addition to the 100 watt flood lights, I also have two radiant heat panels.

How are those heat panels? Looks like a great idea and I've never seen it done before.

There is a good amout of mulch for her to dig around in, it keeps her busy. The heat panels work good, they were originally designed for smaller cages so the two together over the platform plus the heat from the lights gives a good basing temp. At one point I did have a 30 gallon pond in her old cage, but I couldn't find a good enough filter. I would have to change the water every couple of days.

as for the pond if you would like to put it in put a drain in the botom with a on off valve that going out the botom when it gets all nasty you turn on the valve drain out the water into a bucket and fill it back up with a hose my buddy uses that with his nile female and it works great

I'm moving next week end, so now the whole cage has to come down and get rebuilt in the new house. Right now I have half of the cage torn down. What a pain in the ass.

I'd just leave it and build a new one at the new place. :lmao::lmao:

It took me 8 hours and a large dog crate, and the use of a van, But I did it.

You do not need a pond... Ornates are far less aquatic than thier close relative, the nile monitor... In fact ornates are just about fully terrestrial...

Awesome monitor and the set up is nice and roomy... I hate seeing varanids in fish tanks!!! LOL
