View Full Version : UPS Shipping... ship at your own risk

I have calmed down enough that I can make a post without it going strait to the saloon.... plus I wanted it out here so the search engines could pick it up.

My Seller shipped out a snake to me on Monday (11-09-09) for a Tuesday (11-10-09) delivery. All was going fine till it reached the hub in KY. Apparently they cant figure out how to put it on the truck to AR.

This is what the tracking showed as of 4pm

http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/southernwolf/Misc/UPSSucks.jpg

So I called UPS inquiring about my package. Maybe they just have not updated the website and its out for delivery and my driver is running behind. The person I talked to on the phone said that my package didn't get put on the truck to AR... but they would get to me tomarrow. (11-11-09) Im not real happy with this, but what can you do. I contacted the seller and let him know what was going on with the shipment. Apparently he was on top of things as well, because he said he just sent me an email to call him.

Its now a little after 4pm and I have a 45 min drive (one way) to get to my FedEx hub and I HAD to ship out some animals today for a customer so off I went since my snake was not going to arrive today. I finally get back a little after 6pm and for some reason decided to refresh the UPS Tracking page.

Are you :censored: kidding me. Now I have a $1,000 snake sitting in Miami FL with a heat pack in the box! It dont need any extra heat in Miami... and should never even be in FL. Im in AR... and you dont have to go to FL to get to me from KY.

Not only that... but it shows "out for delivery" .... out for delivery where. At this point... Im not even sure UPS knows what color their trucks are... they dang sure dont have a clue how to ship packages.

http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/southernwolf/Misc/UPSSucks2.jpg

Some more things that just dont add up. I took the first screen shot at November 10, 2009, 4:10:34 PM according to the created data in the properties section of the photo... but yet in the second screen shot (which was taken at 6:22pm my time) shows that my package was out for delivery in FL at 8:05am.

(I contact the seller again to let him know about our shipment since he is at work)

If its in FL at 8:05am then why wasn't the tracking showing that at 4pm? Why did UPS tell me my package was sitting in KY at 4pm? Do they even know where my package is? Im thinking NOT!!!

Following along with the second screen shot....

So apparently my snake is baking down in FL and out for delivery to god only knows where then they update it again.

now at 11/10/2009 8:33 P.M. my package is logged in as DEPARTURE SCAN ... good... at least its leaving FL... but where to now? The way my luck is going... Probably Seattle :)

I check back a little later and my package is arriving back at Miami at 11/10/2009 9:00 P.M. ARRIVAL SCAN :yesnod:

If it departed Miami at 8:33pm..... where did it go to arrive back at Miami at 9:00pm? Once again... my snake is sitting in Miami FL with a heat pack in the box when it should be at my house in its enclosure.

Well according to their website...its leaving again at 11/10/2009 10:17 P.M. DEPARTURE SCAN from Miami FL to .... Parts unknown. At this point I didnt take a screen shot.. figured Id see where it ended up.

At 11/11/2009 12:26 A.M. ARRIVAL SCAN ... at least its out of FL... or is it? The tracking shows it right back at the hub in KY.... but it also never showed it arriving in Miami.. .just out for delivery there.

http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/southernwolf/Misc/UPSSucks4.jpg

I have contacted UPS and informed them that they need to hold my package at the hub here in AR (another 45 min drive one way) and I will be knocking on their door first thing in the morning. I dont need it riding in the back of their truck till 2:30pm (when I normally receive my UPS packages). I will be taking my camera with me tomarrow and opening the box 'on site'.

Just because UPS is cheaper than FedEx (sometimes) ... doesnt mean its better. In this case you get what you pay for.... and my snake is taking a tour of the Southeastern US inside of a brown cardboard box!!

I just hope I do get what I paid for... a LIVE healthy snake.

Hey,

I am a commercial pilot....When ever I had Fedex pilots on the Jump seat they would sometimes poke fun at UPS. They would tell me UPS stands for Undelivered Parcel System. In my own personal opinion I wish Ship Your Reptiles could have worked out a deal with Fedex. I do understand any shipping company can have its problems but Fedex has always been so seamless and friendlier for me.

Good Luck,
Bill

I hope things work out for you! However, I've had way more problems, just like this, with FedEx. It's a gamble each time we ship, no matter who we choose to use.

Glad it worked out but just remember the companies are only as good as their employee's and I have had issues with all of them...

Then apparently the um.... Useless Service Provider... has alot of employee's with their head so far up their tookis that they cant see the lables on the packages.

Not only did she not get put on the truck to AR while at the KY hub.... they put her on a plane at that hub bound for FL. That is 2 screwups at one hub!!!

Then she is "out for delivery" in FL.... out for delivery where. AR does NOT look like FL in any form or fashion.

There's the 3rd screwup on the same package.

UPS is definitely USELESS!!!!

I am getting Fedex Certified today....Thanks for sharing this screw up with us, and I could not imagine going through what you went through yesterday. People just don't understand the mental connection we all have with our snakes. Especially the juveniles.

Bill

Definately glad to hear she made it safe and sound. Out of curiousity, was this just straight UPS, or through SYR?

Southern Wolf
11-12-2009, 12:21 PM
it was thru SYR... but the way I look at it.... SYR was not involved in this. They just provided a way for the shipper to use UPS.

I dont fault SYR in any way.

UPS was the one that couldnt pull their heads out of their butts long enough to read the shipping label.

SNSnakes
11-12-2009, 02:09 PM
May I ask, what did the shipping label look like? Was it clear and precise? Hand written or typed? Was the box maybe double labeled (used box with the old label still on one side). I work for UPS and yeah, mistakes do happen. But everything is bar coded and laser read to reduce those kind of errors. And yes, there are some employees who really don't give a crap...I'm NOT one of them. Just wondering...

Southern Wolf
11-13-2009, 12:23 AM
The label was computer printed and not obstructed in any way. Looks like a new box and the only other labels on the box UPS put on there.

Thanks. Hmmm, that's weird. Usually a computer generated label will have a computer generated bar code that says the same info. Scanning the bar code should have told the system that it was going to AR. The Louisville hub is 95% automated and computerized. I have no idea how it got to FL?

I'm glad that it all turned out ok. Very nice looking boa there!

Southern Wolf

yep... had the bar code too..... and it was unobstruced as well.

I dont know how she got to FL... .but the way I see it. UPS screwed up a min of 3 times on my one package.

It didnt make it on the truck to AR at the Louisville hub
It got put on a plane to FL at the Louisville hub
It got put on a truck for "out for delivery" in Miami FL

Im Glad She arrived Safe man, Nothings Scarier than a mis-shipped Snake.

I used to work for UPS, in the Distribution Center. The Reason your package from you got to Florida is really quite Simple, Theres a few people above your trailer, sorting packages by zipcode to each trailer, sometimes they miss one, and when they get to your trailer, you Scan them, and are suppose to check the zip, as each trailer is specific to a group of zipcodes under one unique UPS code. So Basically, They messed it up much more than 3 times, if it was 3 times, there was really 9 people that screwed this up, It really was a team effort. The Zip in florida must of been real close to the other...or there just retarded.

After working for UPS Ill be damned If i ship one thing through them, I have always Used fedex, and will continue to use fedex, even if its pricier. You will always hear horror stories about shipping the more you ask, but I stand by screw UPS.

All in all Kevin, Im glad you got your Animal alive and Healthy!

you can get really cheap shipping through fedex if you do the leg work to become a certified live animal shipper
the process is outlined here

I agree it is the same for me...my fedex account is cheaper than without it but still not even close to the savings.
