Today was clean out day, so I thought I'd snap a few pics while I was at it. Our breeders are grouped into 1.3 or 1.4 in 10 gallon aquariums. With a solid wire top lid that has a basket for a water bottle and food that drops into the 10 gallon.

Works well for us....

Our other method is simple colony breeding.... using 3ft or 4ft aquariums.

Inner view - I just cleared out about 50+ medium sized ASF's before taking this pic.

Feeder housing.... 4ft or larger aquariums work well for holding feeders. I just don't do plastic with these guys!

As long as the snakes are kept fed.... I'm happy!

I had a real hard time with my ASF's. I eventually fed them all off but I now found some more local and I am fixin' to set them up again. How do you water the feeder tank? Just curious I used to have a similar set-up and it was a pain so I built my new rack now. I still have an old wooden rack I am going to start a asf colony probably this saturday.

Thanks
Daniel

Thanks!

The large aquariums all have a hole drilled at the end of them and the water bottle is on the outside... if you take a look at the first colony breeding pic, you can see the water on the outside.

About a year ago I think...learned what containers to use and which ones to never use because of that.

Got home from work, took a shower and was taking clothes to the laundry/rat room and there was one little one sitting in the middle of the kitchen floor. I grabbed a net scooped it up and then went in to find almost all of them in one of the containers were gone. Made some temp adjustments and started hunting....found 20 something of them, no real count since I had them all set up in large colony bins...

Not worried about them getting outside since it was cold and they don't do so hot in little drafts but damn did I pull apart everything I could find. Never found anymore but talk about a wake up call on containers...not a critter I want loose and reproducing in my house!

Ain't gotta be pretty to be workable brother. So far , knock on wood , I haven't had issues using plastic bins. But I don't keep my rodents in or near the house either so on the occasion that something gets out I'm not overly worried.

Nice set up Scott. As I recall I came home to Jeff hunting all over the house for those loose ASF's. Pretty entertaining.

Actually we had some chew through the plastic containers...hence why aquariums now.

That's how I like it, simpler means I get out of there quicker.... LOL

I'd do the gravity line fed watering system if it were not for the wild mice that can get into the garage....

If all works out will revamp the garage next year and get the gravity setups
