Hello fellow gassers,

I just went out and purchased a 5 lb tank of CO2 with a high/low flow regulator. I will post some pics later...It is sweet. I made a quick disconnect to the tub. Here is what I am wondering? Is it safe to use this set up in the snake and rat area? Is there a chance when gassing that the animals in the same room can be affected by the residual CO2 GAS? Also once gassing a rat, if I wanted to fresh kill feed it to a ball, is there any risk to the ball if fed right after gassing? I also want to keep the tank in the basement, but is there any real risk in that other than if the pressure relief valve blew? Thanks again for any advice and help with your own personal experiences....:master: :master: :master:

Bill :rebel:

I gas my rats and mice in the snake room right now as that's where I have them housed for now....I use a pretty small gas chamber....I'm hoping to move the mice and rats to an outside shed once I get that finished but that's just so I can increase numbers and have more room as well as get the smell of them outdoors.... But I haven't had any issues what so ever with doing the gassing in the same room as the snakes....and I feed right away as well after gassing without issue...:yessir:

Thanks guys. The problem I am having is that my snakes will a bigger meal if it is pre -killed. The bigger live rats just make them really uncomfortable in their small tub. The small rats and less are going live. Thanks for the help. Just what I needed.

Bill

Yep, I gas my rats right next to the Freedom Breeder so the others know whats coming..LOL. Seriously, I don't have any problems gassing rats in my basement. My house was built in the 70's, so it isn't sealed the tightest. I feed the gassed rats off immediately with no problems either...unless I'm going to freeze them, then I wait 8-10 minutes to make sure they're REALLY dead and not just unconscious.

I have a 10 lb tank of CO2 with the high/low pressure regulator also. You won't have any problems unless you accidentally knock the tank over and smack the regulator on the floor...then it might snap off!

Thanks the other Scott,

I will take some pics later today. I have decided to leave my tank in the garage. If the tank ever breached itself I am pretty sure I would loose some snakes and rats. My son also plays his video games in the basement, so I think I will not tempt fate. It will suck going to the garage, but I will have piece of mind. If you can believe it my Mom is taking me shopping for clothes today......:lmao: Only funny to me because I am 43. We went to see Wicked the other night and she thought I looked like crap. I told her I was not interested in wearing a sport coat. And I did not own a nice one anyway. Well, guess who is going out today and getting a coat with mom....It is actually kind of fun to hang out with my mom for the day...It takes me back to my younger days......

Thanks again,
Bill :rebel:

the smaller the shamber the less gas needed to cull. remember that co2 is heavier that the air that we breath. thus it will search for the lowest spot available once you release the co2. if you have some animals that are really low you might want to think about that. but in a big room i wouldn't really worry so much about it.

Here are the pictures I promised of my Gas Chamber and Tank. I have a quick disconnect for easy movement of the Gas Chamber. It works flawlessly and I am so glad I invested in this very nice set up. I also had a Gauge Guard installed for backup to me being a klutz and the added safety. Well worth the extra cash.

Nice set up! I was wondering what that tubular metal around the gauges was...gauge guard, eh? Fancy hose set up there..cool. I just have a plain vinyl hose going from the regulator though a hole in the Sterlite container top.

Thanks,

The tubing is the same tubing you would see in a beer tap. It is insulated and it keeps the tubing from freezing up from the C02. Yes the gauge guard was a must have. If the tank tips over and the gauges get hit they are destroyed. I had this whole set up made at a beer tap distributer here in Denver. They made me a very nice set up. I loved how it came out. They will also let me trade out the tank for a bigger one if I feel I need it. But I doubt I will because 5 lbs of gas should last me for quite a while.
