Want to know the reason most people in the extreme lower income brackets fight over their kids? The check they get from the state every month.
We already have free health care. My friend is a med student and was wondering what the entire debate was about because all they do in the general internal medicine is a rotating door. A person comes in because they didn't follow the doctors directions, they stay in the hospital a day or two, are discharged (the hospital doesn't even bother giving them a bill because they know they can't pay) and in two months they are back again for doing the same stupid shit. Just a revolving door.
The same thing with rehab centers, people go in for 3 hots and a cot, **** around in the outpatient program for a week or two then relapse for a few months and end back up in-patient to do it all over again, and just continue racking up a bill they will never ever pay.
People are forced to stay on SSi or SSD or similar programs and not work because if their job required them to work say just two extra hours they would loose their health benefits. So once the system gets you it does everything it can to keep you dependent on it. Pretty sad, as its not really their fault, since they do actually need the health benefits but are able to work at least a part time job, but that job doesn't come close to covering their health care costs.
