Here, just the basics, Jeremy, have you kept these ones in particular? I don't know what questions you have?

Who is jeremy?

As far as specific questions i guess the general.

Temperment?
Cage/heating/lighint requirements?
Feeding requirements?
Availability here in the US?
So on and so forth. I mean most of this i should be able to track down with some research and i will be looking into them on my own but i was hoping some others would have info available.

Name is Brian.

Jeremy aka Tokaysunlimited. He's a member here who may know something about them. We have another member who has been MIA for awhile who is really into monitors, maybe he'll get the time to pop back in here to help.

Forgive me im completely new to this site. So i do not know anyone as of yet. But i certainly hope someone pops in that knows a thing or three about them. I would like to get 1 or 2 once i move. Im active duty and will be taking new orders in about 4-5 months and at that time id like to look into getting some of them.

No problem that's why I clarified for you. Tokay should be on at some point tonight if not tomorrow. Hope he can help you out.

Sorry, I shouldn't have used his name like that, instead of his screen name. I have kept the "mini monitors" but those were ackies, not tristis, and don't want to presume them as being kept the same. Tokaysunlimited will prob be able to help more, as V has gone missing.

4' long x 3ft deep 3 feet high would house a pair or trio nicely
100-110 degrees on the hot spot.
Feeding (the more varied the diet the better)Mine get pinks 1 time a week and various insects the others)
In the U.S. Absolutly.Right around 200-300 depending on who you know for unsexed hatchlings.
Most of the ones i have owned have been skittish.Never bite but flee away when they see you.
Except the one i send Harold and 2 others.
If you need any links or info let me know and i can get them for you.
Very cool species to work with.
Are your plans for breeding or just to have one as a pet???
And for the record i dont keep em on paper towel...lmfao.

What service are you in? You need to go to your userCP and look at the groups and join the military group! We need a few more members so we can start our own forum!

Good luck with the monitors if you decide to get them!

I never start out to breed. i want to get one for a pet (probably female) and keep it for some time and make sure its something i would like to be involved in then ill look into breeding them. they seem awesome and im sure they are great to watch. Knowing me id try to get them to enjoy human contact lol. Id build the appropriate setup to house a pair of females and another for a male (unless they are housed together as i do not know anything about this species other than im interested). If you have any informative links on them and know of any breeders (trying to find out where ill get one from when the time comes) itd be great. Thanks

Oh and im in the Navy

Naw, get a nile! You learn real quick how to read an animal, and how fast and smart they really are!

(Kidding by the way!) Tokays can answer this one, but I would assume (never assume!) that as they don't get HUGE and are not unmangable to set up properly, than I wouldn't see why not...

Lol a nile
i always thought a Croc Monitor was the best beginner monitor :wamma: lol

i was thinking the same
due to their size and supposedly timid but not vicious demenor that they are probably a good starter monitor

Sara

Nope, not a croc, you can't read those, at least the nile's give ya a chance!

Personally, I say get a green tree monitor, but that is cuz I am partial to them, so that's not an unbiased opinion. I've cared for timors and argus, but never been tempted to set up for them at home, the trees just grab me and there's nothing I can do about it.

If you want a tristus then get one.
Ackies would be another good option if you looking at dwarf species.
Plus Ackies are a good way to get into breeding.
If your looking for something a little bigger then V.rudicolus are nice.(i am partial to rudi's though).
