Lizards, snakes, owls saved from cooking pot
Malaysian officials seize $830,000 worth of creatures bound for restaurants

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - Malaysian authorities have seized $830,000 worth of exotic animals, including porcupines and pythons, that were destined for the cooking pot, a newspaper reported on Thursday.

Among the animals were 7,000 clouded monitor lizards, 1,000 owls, crested serpent eagles, mousedeer, wild pigs and pangolins, which are not endangered but protected by law. The authorities also recovered bear parts.

A 49-year old man, who kept dead animals in several freezers and live ones in the backyard of his house in the southern state of Johor, had been charged, the Star newspaper said.

Abd Rasid Samsudin, the head of Malaysia's Wildlife and National Parks department, said the animals fetched high prices at restaurants in China, Hong Kong and Vietnam.

The meats, cooked with herbs, could fetch as much as 300 ringgit ($83.57) a bowl, he said.

i have ate plenty of crazy things overseas...scorpions, spiders, lizards, rhinocerous beetle larvae, and even drank cobras blood and a cray halucenogenic drink of whiskey and some other part of a cobra (dont ask)

Most of it isnt bad if you just let go of preconsception te problem is when it becomes an issue of killing off endangered species

Since they aren't endangered so I honestly don't really see what the issue is except for the stuff that is protected. I really doubt all of it is protected just a few things that screwed him...if he would have just followed the law he would have been fine. Once again more stupid people....
