View Full Version : Civil Reptile Rights Activists March
JDaniel 12-14-2009, 02:14 AM A hobby by definition is :
a subject or plan upon which one is constantly setting off; a favorite and ever-recurring theme of discourse, thought, or effort; that which occupies one's attention unduly, or to the weariness of others; a ruling passion.
the key in that definition is: "a ruling passion"
A business in the same instance is:
is a legally recognized organization designed to provide goods and/or services to consumers

Now with the formalities out of the way we see that these bills like HR 669 and S.373 are threatening our very hobby and business. President Obama has strong convictions about maintaining jobs and fixing the economy. However, a bill like this will kill thousands if not millions of people's financial stability. This is only a small portion of the problem.
Our civil liberties are at stake here, ones that our Forefathers promissed us 222 years ago. "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness". Last I checked a Hobby was somewhere in the pursuit of happiness area as it does make me happy, and I am sure you as well.
Senators and Congressman/women only know 1 thing in my opinion, how to screw up something that didn't need to be screwed with in the first place.
There are other means of achieving the same goal without means of banning 9 species of animals. Florida seems to be having a problem in the everglades, they implemented a law where owners of the 9 listed must maintain a ROC Permit. Well there you go situation fixed, right? No, they [lawmakers] have to push the issue and hold un-scientifically proven data up before those ignorant to the situation to pass into law something that will kill jobs and our basic civil liberties.
Times are hard enough as it is without this.
So lets unite and march To Washington in 2010 and show those lawmakers the numbers of people they will affect should this bill go through. Dr. Martin Luther King did it, Betty Friedan did it, Harry Britt as well and all were heard as the voices of a thousand people rang behind them.
It is time to set our differences aside and band together.
So, strap your walking shoes on cause emails and phone calls didn't work.
The March to Washington and our State Capitols Starts NOW!!
JDaniel 12-14-2009, 02:15 AM Message to BT and Larry
Great site you can count seeing me around participating.
However I have a matter in which I would like to speak to you about!
As a fellow breeder and small reptile business owner I feel that our current approach to opposing the legislation in promotion right now is just not enough.
I am a Disabled Veteran of the U.S. Army from the war in Iraq, now I couldn't give 2 shakes about those people over there [who are] killing our troops and their country [kill them all i say] I went over their so I can stop them from killing our friends and family from attacks on our nation.
Now that my hobby and business is under attack I have a new enemy and that is the lawmakers placing my financial stability and hobby to a possible end.
I have been tallking on other forums and it seems the understanding is there.
I am spearheading the March to Washington, DC with the simultaneous marches to all Continental State Capitols in a non-violent protest opposing these bills.
We have called and emailed and continue to do so but alot of us think that until these lawmakers SEE who they are affecting they will follow ignorance to ruin our lives.
I am asking for your help in promoting such a historical event for the reptile community and helping us get the numbers we need to make this happen, I myself do not care if there are 1 to 1000 people behind me my sneakers are ready and I am going to do it reguardless, anybody can call but it takes a backbone and intestinal fortitude to actually do something and that is what we are doing!
Please help us help the Reptile community, we are taking donations of which Half of all donations will be given to USARK to help in their lobbyist efforts the other half will be allotted to each of the 49 Capitol March leaders for water, food, supplies, and other need to have our voice heard.
All large Marches to DC were met with Positive results, there is power in numbers, please be with us
thank you,
J.Daniel

JDaniel 12-14-2009, 02:46 PM Just got off the Phone with Andrew Wyatt, USARK President, and he is in it!!
He is fully supporting the march and is going to Help promote it, one concern he said.... I think it will be hard to get the numbers cause people are not even calling and filling out the emails..
this is a combined effort, if you want to lose your rights then stop talking on the many forums out there, if you want to keep your right then now is the time to GROW A BACKBONE and support the fight!

Thats contridicting the usark emails then isnt it?
JDaniel 12-14-2009, 08:22 PM no I think what he is saying is GET OFF YOUR {censored} PEOPLE AND HELP
hr669 saw 50,000+ letters and emails, the bill that passed the mark up committee is only 10,000
big difference!
not contradicting
sdreptiles 12-14-2009, 08:25 PM I have been saying, something like this has to be done. I don't think the letter writing campaign will work this time. Maybe phone calls, and visits to your senator's local office. Most likely that wont matter either. Something big has to be done. Something to get their attention, something that will open their eyes. Im 100% for something like this. Not sure Id be able to make it to DC, but Im not to far from Wisconsin's state capitol. I could join in a march to the Madison capitol building.

I think you're preaching to the wrong choir there. this is a tight group and we all do our share around here. The BLBC go over and above of what is expected to help fight these bills.
Something big has to be done. Something to get their attention, something that will open their eyes.
I am all for supporting the cause (letters, emails, phone calls) but at the end of the day I'm afraid it's all about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
These are politicians that we are dealing with.
JDaniel 12-14-2009, 08:53 PM xanaxez, really i am not denying the BLBCs participation you were recommended as a site that is at the top of all sites that Support USARKs efforts, my problem is not with that of the outstanding members of the BLBC but that of the other 40K+ reptile keepers that are not working to achieve anything.
I apologize should my text not be clear and should someone take offense to my message. However, this effort should strike a guilty nerve to those that are doing nothing to support USARK's or CRRAM's efforts
I read the proposed date is March 1st from Nashville to DC??? Is that correct?
JDaniel 12-14-2009, 08:59 PM tht is where I am starting from I will set rally points along the way as I get closer so the group can merge with those that do not wish to walk 669 miles
yes the date of the march is right now 1 march 2010 but should the bill go in sooner the date will be pushed up to challange that bill while on the senate floor.
everyone can either march or just go to DC. and meet up. however the march is what is going to get the attention of the much needed public
JDaniel 12-14-2009, 09:11 PM I am all for supporting the cause (letters, emails, phone calls) but at the end of the day I'm afraid it's all about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Money is that but these politicians want to be re-elected as well as them placing large businesses like the fashion industry at a large loss I dont think money is the issue.
I see it like this on of the marchers had it right, all donations received as everyone knows Half goes to USARK for help in their lobbiest efforts, the other goes into supplies for the march, and the rest of the money (alot should be left after the marck supplies allotment) will go to a fund to help in the cleanup for the everglades.
I will discuss all this on the radio show and should anyone else have questions please email or call in. The ogranization is rock solid all we need are the numbers!

I'll keep checking in on the site.
JDaniel 01-04-2010, 01:19 AM I would like to say Happy New year...and with that in order for it to truly be a "happy" new year I would like to ask that you continue your emails, letters and phone calls but also please sign up and support the march! Your rights depend on it
The Rev 01-06-2010, 08:55 PM Keep going

Larry 03-03-2010, 05:06 PM That one died quick...
JDaniel 03-04-2010, 09:25 PM That one died fast because NO ONE stood up and participated, no one wanted to get off their key board and do the march I am all about the march and still am but I am not standing on Capitol Hill as just one person. 3 months it was up with only 74 members willing to at least say they were down. I hope you all understand but yeah Andrew was right great effort but no one will show.

No one will know unless it is advertised effectively and updated well and frequently.... when was the March due to begin?
Larry 03-04-2010, 09:34 PM Mr. Daniel you must lead by example. There was little response because there was little if any leadership. A movement such as the one you proposed will only be as successful as those proposing it..

That is true, without effective leadership and effective advertising it just won't happen.... none of that happened, so I don't think blaming everyone else is even remotely appropriate....
Take the way USARK does business, with important email updates, it's professional and effective at getting the message across and quick.
You could of had a simple site up for people to view information about the march. You should of also set up an email "sign up for free newsletter" for important updates.... a lot of people don't want to have to sign up to another site for a single event so I don't know why it was set up as another forum.... but ultimately the advertising campaign was non existent....

I agree. It died quickly because you put no effort into it. I see you are a veteran like me so you must have learned some leadership skills while serving our country. Take those values and leadership skills the military taught you and transfer them to civilian life. It works, trust me. :yessir:
