Please keep in mind I'm not anything near an expert carpenter here....You wouldn't want me building your house :lmao:.....but I do like building stuff like this though.....and it's working great....It holds the temps really nice.....couldn't be happier with it....So here it is....Well sorta new I should say.....This was an old 12' X16' open front shed that I decided to close in and use to raise my own rodents...I lost some of my original pic's of what it looked like before I even started .....But anyhow it's right behind our garage...I insulated really well behind everything.....so far I just ran a couple extension cords out to it for heat and lights....a 25' cord reaches just fine that's how close it is to the garage.......I'm running one 1500 watt radiator type heater with a back up 1500 watt fan forced heater for colder days if needed....Getting the rodents out of the snake room and the smell of them outside....makes all of this well worth it and makes me wish I had done it a lot sooner!! :yessir:

Closer to being done...well pretty much done for the most part....I kept forgetting to take pictures everyday :o

My rodents and 1 rack that I have now all moved in.....Next project is to build some rodent birthing racks and grow out racks as well as get 1 or 2 stock tanks for breeding pens....

http://i410.photobucket.com/albums/pp184/JOHNS6068/IMG_8727.jpg

I'm running a pretty high ratio of females to males with the mice right now  This is one thing I will be changing as I get more racks built and now that have the room to do it....I will be cycling my females with males....once preg I will pull them out before they have their litter....I have only had live rats now for about 4 to 5 weeks......The mice a lot longer almost 1 maybe 2 years even..... I gotta build more racks and I'll get more pictures when that's all done.......

Awesome setup!! I'm so jealous as I don't have the space to build a barn like that. I only have room for a small rack in my snake room. Please keep us updated!

Looking good Johno! Now get that thing filled up so you'll have an excuse to get more snakes! "But hon, we've got so many rats now I need to get a few more to eat them all!" :D

Looks great John, that is the only way I would raise my own rodents, I can't stand the stink of rodents.

Almost all my snakes eat f/t, the few that eat live send me off to the pet store.

If I had an outside area like that I would definitely raise me some mice and rats.

Looks great! One question though....how do you fill all those water bottles? Do you have a water line to the shed, run the garden hose into the shed (how do you keep it from freezing), or do you have to slog a tray full of empty/full water bottles back and forth between the shed and house? A water line would make it very cool and simple...slogging bottles back and forth, not so much!

It got to cold to quick before I got to thinking about a water line....that may have to wait till spring now....as for now I'm just using a couple water jugs...the ones that are a couple of gallons and have a spout on them with a valve.....works really well so far...I even have some that are 5 gallons...It's really not that far from my back door of the house...growing up and feeding about 100 baby calves and carrying all the milk needed in 5 gallon buckets 2 times a day from the barn to where the calves were almost a 1/4 mile away....25 feet out the back door is a breeze for me

Oh, ok. I suppose lugging two 5 gallon jugs just once and filling bottles from them isn't too bad. Whatever works man! Thanks.
