View Full Version : Hockey
Okay, put that right on as the title so that most can skip this post, lol!
Just some WILD venting...
First we get a new gm. Than we get a new coach. New staff, new equiment, new trainers, new everything. Few new players. New "style" of play. So of course they have to get used to that.
Now they have a fire in the equipment truck and most of the players lose all their gear. That happened yesterday. Had to play today in Ottowa, and got SMOKED. Geeze, half the players went to Play It Again sports for half their stuff!!! They ahd the option of new, but if anybody has ever tried skating in new skates, you know that ain't happening! Gear needs to be broken in.
And we play the Avs on monday. Ouch. Hopefully they'll have more of their stuff worked in a bit.
Okay, end rant, just had to say we ain't making the play offs this year, lol!
Oh, wait, not end rant, I'll pick it back up on monday!:lmao:

:lmao::lmao: Hell yeah, drop the gloves! LOL!!!
Naw, I will say this. as tough as a time as they are having this year, we have already played the Avs FOUR times this year! And we won every time!Even when on a 7 game losing streak, we used the Avs to get back to winning... So mabey the fire was a good thing for the Avs, they may finally be able to beat us while the Wild players are playing in either brand new super stiff equipment, or used cheap stuff from Play it Again, lol!!
Oh, and Bama, I had a reply for you but figured it would be deemed inappropriate or taken wrong, invloved the proper way to handle a stick VS the amount of time riding a bull... So I'll just say that you know when you're watching football and there's a cheap shot and you really wish they could just take a couple minute break in the game and let them go ahead and fight it out? In hockey they do! Fun stuff!:lmao:
ThunderPaws 12-20-2009, 05:47 PM Sara,
You know it is all love coming from the Rockies. I am sorry the Wild are having a sucky year. Did you see how the Avs did last year.....Ouch. It has been since 2001 since we have seen a cup in the Pepsi Center, and will hopefully be coming back soon. And yes, you guys definitely seem know how to kick our ass.

Is all good! Gotta have some crap throwing around here with something besides football! LOL! I have no qualms against any team, well, mabey the Canucks, haha! Seriously though, there are players that you almost have to hate, but other than that it's all in good fun! I just wish that if they were going to suck, be at the BOTTOM of the suck pile! At least pull a good draft pick out of a bad year! But nope! Lose long enough to make it almost impossible to come back, and than start winning to put yourself up over others. Humph, silly boys!
Okay Bill and Scott, you guys got one! That was a good game, even though I was yelling at the tv after your first 2 goals to pull Backs! We sure tried to come back, but ya got us this time! Good game!
ThunderPaws 12-22-2009, 01:14 PM Well, I was not going to say anything.....SO I am glad you did. What a difference a year makes. You are still ahead on us for the year. Great game and way too close.
Bill

Never be afraid to say something! LOL! Shoulda popped on saying "Wahoooo smoked ya! Hahaha!!!" But look at you being all nice! Yeah, it did come out awfully close at the end, they like to do that this year, let the other team get ahead, and then try to even it up.:dunno: We've had NINE games go into OT or shootout this year already!
ThunderPaws 12-22-2009, 11:44 PM My son Andrew has been learning how to play hockey this year and that has been the most fun we have had in hockey yet. He will be playing on the summer league and we are so excited. I am really looking forward in seeing him play on a team. Should be cool.

How fun for him!!! How old is he? And of course, do you have a good dental plan? Not even meaning to make a joke on that one, I just know so many people that play and most lost at least one tooth by high school, most before. They do great work now though!!!
ThunderPaws 12-22-2009, 11:59 PM Andrew is 8. He is really doing well. But it is funny. He does not like being hit by the other players. Isn't that funny. He really just likes to skate and shoot. He is a great football player so I am not sure why he does not checking or being checked. He is doing better with it.
Bill
Hmmm, sounds like he'd make a great center! All Star is in his future! Don't have to be a checker, leave that to the defense and the wingers. Funny though that he plays football but doesn't want to get hit while playing hockey. Does he need some tips on how to give and recieve hits with minimal damage?
ThunderPaws 12-26-2009, 03:29 PM Yes,
He would love any tips. He loves hockey. He will be playing a lot this summer in the summer league program. In fall he will be trying out for a traveling team. Thanks.
Bill
#1- Head UP!!!! Know that it's coming so you can set yourself for it. Don't watch your pass!
#2- If along the boards, try to turn yourself sideways if someone's coming at you, and lean into the boards. The energy transfer will knock the guy hitting you down, while you can skate away. He can also work on the shoulder toss, just lifting his shoulder into the guy that is coming at ya, but that is a timing thing that takes awhile. However it is very effective when done right, that will be one kid that never tried to check him again!
#3- Spend some time alone with nobody around just slamming yourself into the boards. Sounds silly, but when you can run full on into them and learn how to turn your body and it doesn't really hurt, you won't tense up about it. It hurts if you are tense, but learning to let your body relax with it helps alot! And that is something that only comes with the experience. As goofy as it sounds, we did that ALOT as kids, we did more slamming into each other than playing, seeing how far you could knock somebody across the ice was FUN! And with that comes the ability to not worry about it. You may end up with a couple of bruises, but nothing that really hurts. When the fear factor of getting nailed goes away, that tenseness does too!
ThunderPaws 12-27-2009, 07:24 PM Thanks,
Andrew will really benefit from that....Keep it coming. I will try and get some video of his practice for you. It is so fun to watch him. He loves the advice about slamming the boards. I may have to put my skates on and help him out.
Thanks so much,
Bill
For sure lace em up yourself and get out there with him! Let him knock ya around! Fun time!!!
I'll actually call a friend of mine that plays defense for the wild and see what little tidbits of wisdom he'd pass on to an 8 year old, and if it's clean enough or cleanable and doesn't sound too painful I'll pass em on!!!
I played all winter, but grew up in Northern Minnesota, land of "eh, you betcha," and hockey. So, trying to remember back to learning is hard for me, just cuz I think I was on skates before I was walking, lol!
ThunderPaws 12-29-2009, 01:59 AM Sounds good. I am sure some good info will be coming. I love to skate with Andrew...I just hate falling...
Bill
Hey Bill, what position does he think that he wants to play?
ThunderPaws 12-30-2009, 01:01 AM Hey,

Bill
