I had my little buddy out for a bit this morning, so I decided to snap some photos of him. He's supposedly CB, and also supposedly a male, but I'm not 100% sure on either. He's also supposed to be about a year old. Anyways.. I love the little bugger. He's pretty handleable once he's out of his cage and calmed down a bit. He ALWAYS voids on me when I take him out, but he's pretty good after that. I like to give him a soak every week or so. Anyways.. here he is, with my wife holding him:

Wow. What a beauty.

Ive always loved them, of course, but so far Ive shied away due to their delicate nature and of course the price. I would only want a trio and Id really like them to be CB. So we're talkin some coin here.

Your guy is a stunner. If I had to guess id say hes CB. WCs just seem to have a certain "look" to them if you know what I mean.

Id also agree thats a male. Educated guess at best but my money would be on male.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I figure he's male as well, I'm just not 100% on it. Since I haven't thought about trying to find a suitable mate for him yet, it hasn't really been a priority. There's a definite male at a shop near by that I can compare him to if I can't see or feel anything in the tail.

I think he's CB, as well. He doesn't have any scars or anything and seems to not be as skittish as a WC would generally be. I really hope he is. I did pay alot more for him than I would have paid for a WC. He's been worth it, though. He's healthy and I can handle him when I need to.

John, he shouldn't get too much bigger. He may grow a couple more inches in total length, get a very little bit more bulk on him, but otherwise, he shouldn't get too much bigger. They generally don't get more than 3 ft total length, 60% of which is tail.

V, if I ever get so fortunate to hatch one out, I'll ship it off to you. When I get a bigger place, we want to get a couple females for him, plus a trio of black trees and a pair or possibly a trio of blue trees. My wife is interested in seeing if we can do a green tree x black tree hybrid. I've told her we will be pretty lucky if we can hatch out a non hybrid, but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try, see what happens.

Thanks for the comments.

Going down the tree monitor road. Very noble.

Sure if you do produce some green trees keep me in mind.

I have a few other species on my list as well aside from the more "common" ones.

I really like black roughnecks. From what I understand very few if any people have bred them. Some day Id love to have a trio of those guys and see how I do. Such a cool monitor. Very bird-like.

Indeed the roughnecks are sweet looking monitors. I'd have all sorts of species if I had more room. When I get the room, I'll start the projects, though. Arboreal species really fascinate me, though, so, since I have to make the room, I'm going with those.

When I have the room, I'd love to get a peach throat or two, a blue tailed, mangrove.. Hell, I want them ALL. lol

I don't have any pics right now of his enclosure, but I'll get some after I move it to the new snake room. If I ever have babies, knock on wood, I will let you know. They are awesome. Green Trees are my favorite monitor species, and when I happened upon him, I had to get him.

His enclosure is 5 ft x 3 ft x 6 ft. I put a bunch of large wood branches up for him to run around on, plus I put PVC coated hardware cloth up on the walls for him to have more area that he can run around on. I got a whole bunch of plastic viney leafy things that I've weaved in and out of the hardware cloth and on the branches to try to make him feel more secure. He's got some cork tubes that are fixed and elevated to sleep in and a couple cork half tubes on the ground. He's got cypress as a substrate and a little box with the ProExotics soil mix in it if he feels like digging at all. I don't see him do it very often, but on occassion he goes in there. I mounted lights inside for his heat. One is directed at his basking spot, which is about 120 at the warmest spot, but it's closer to 110 to 105 on most of his basking spot. His ambient on his warmer side is about 90 and it goes down to about 75 in the coolest spot in the cage. I don't have any vents in there, as it's really too hard to keep the humidity up with them. He gets plenty of air exchange when I go to mist or feed him. He won't eat roaches anymore, so he get about a dozen or so crickets 3 or 4 days a week plus sometimes I give him a superworm or two. 2 to 3 times a week he gets a small live mouse. I've been trying to get him to take F/T, but if it doesn't run around, he isn't interested in it. I've tried moving it around with hemostats, but he doesn't like them at all and just runs to go hide when the hemostats go in his cage. I mist him a couple times a day, as he refuses to drink out of his water bowl. I also soak him usually once a week, sometimes once every week and a half to two weeks to make sure he's hydrated and whatnot. He's a little bastard when you try to get him out of his cage. He runs around alot, but eventually I get him to where I can pick him up. He never bites or even tries to bite, he just voids on me. I had been tricking him for a while, where I'd hold him inside the cage till he did, but he's gotten smart and won't do it till he's out of the cage now. He generally calms down after being out of the cage for a couple minutes and will just hang out on my arm without trying to jump off and run away. He really seems to enjoy soaking. Um.. That's about it. Sometime in the next year or so I want to try to find a CB mate for him and see how that works out. I'll try to get some more pictures of him up sometime soon and get some pictures of his enclosure after i move it.

That's just precious! I love it when they learn new ways to torture us!LOL!

That sounds like a fantastic enclosure. He must be lovin' life in there.

I hope he is. There's one at an exotic store up here in a really small vision, and it's so sad to see it all cramped into such a small space. I wanted to make sure mine had plenty of room to explore.
