Actually he is working a long day today, so it may be a little while yet.... earning those extra bucks for the holidays!
JChandler 11-17-2008, 08:24 PM I just got home 20 mins ago, drove through the damn blizzard...
Anyway nothing special just an old barrs cage (wanted something with a top so the geckos don't go roaming to far)...
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l37/ChandlerReptiles/EXTRAS/Lightbox.jpg
Installed a 3 of these mini florescent lights, by installed I mean glued with some construction adhesive I had laying around.
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l37/ChandlerReptiles/EXTRAS/Lightbox1.jpg
Then the end result with no flash on macro settings on my fuji....
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l37/ChandlerReptiles/EXTRAS/Lightbox2.jpg
Thats it, works well I think at least and it was something I had been meaning to do for awhile but got thrown on the back burner...
Sputnik 11-17-2008, 08:27 PM Nice job there Sir, sorry to hear about the weather.... I'll be thinking of ya tomorrow while I'm out in the 78F we'll be getting!
JOHNS6068 11-17-2008, 08:29 PM Thanks for sharing it looks simple enough and turns out so awesome pictures to boot :yourock:
earthpig23 11-17-2008, 08:43 PM thanks man i knew it would be easy enough but need to see some visuals. thanks for coming right home after driving through the blizzard and posting for the masses:master::yourock::yessir:
FloridaHogs 11-17-2008, 09:42 PM Well that was pretty straight forward :)
Southern Wolf 11-19-2008, 09:36 PM when I have my photo studio lit up... I cant get my leo's to open their eyes.... do you have that problem. Maybe my lights are brighter than yours... who knows
my redneck setup
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m49/southernwolf/Misc/Photo-Studio.jpg
Its nothing more than a big black container with the side cut out and I left a lip at the bottom to hold in whatever substrate I wanted to use.
JChandler 11-19-2008, 09:41 PM Mine are just cheap little lights but I would like to get some brighter ones but now that you mentioned that I may just have add them slowly to see how it goes. I did try to take pics of a few of the snow corns here in that box and it was not good, the few lights I had drove them insane. Not sure of a better way to get around that yet.
Southern Wolf 11-19-2008, 10:03 PM Come to think of it... Im not sure which bulbs I have in there... I may have my 100w
I actually have a trio of bulbs for my setup ... a set of 40,75,100 watt bulbs. What I like is Im able to change backgrounds with this one.
JChandler 11-19-2008, 10:09 PM It looks to be a solid setup to me. My only issue with the open top will be my tokay's that I plan to get pics of over my 4 day holiday at the end of the month but for the snakes I like the idea of adding a substrate to the pictures.
jknudson 11-19-2008, 10:12 PM Nice setups, lately here I've just been setting up a tub with white paper, and setting it under our skylight on sunny days...a Speedlight helps too.
I've been looking for a way to do more naturalistic photos indoors...and I think Southern wolfs is just the ticket!
grunt_11b2007 11-19-2008, 10:23 PM Thanks for sharing these setups!! I'll be getting to work on mine now..
Alan
FloridaHogs 11-19-2008, 10:40 PM So where do you find a black tub?
Southern Wolf 11-20-2008, 03:21 AM Yeah... my studio wouldnt work for tokays... he'd run up the side and be gone.
I bought the black tub at wal mart.... I think it is a 50gal. Not sure if they still carry black or not. I also go to the fabric department at walmart... .and you can buy the scraps for next to nothing... and that is how I get my backgrounds.
As for the substrate.. I have pine chips, cypress mulch, sand, and leaves.... each has their own container with just enough to fill the bottom of the studio. The are stacked up on the floor over to the side... along with a container for rocks... and one for wood.
JChandler 11-20-2008, 07:15 AM Kevin I see alot of us running out to get some containers to set up multiple mini light boxes now. Great tips...Thanks!
JOHNS6068 11-20-2008, 08:15 AM Kevin I see alot of us running out to get some containers to set up multiple mini light boxes now. Great tips...Thanks!
I know I'm and Thanks again guys for sharing your setups :yourock:
Southern Wolf 11-20-2008, 06:19 PM No problem guys/gals.... photography is my other passion. I would suggest sticking with the spiral compact flourscents that put out the whiter light (at walmart they normally are in blue packaging).... The reason I go for those is because my flash also puts out a white light... so I figured I would by white lights. This way I dont have to worry bout a yellowish hue to anything white... like you would see from a regular light bulb.
It doesnt show in my photo... but I also have an old tripod that the head got broke off of... and I have mounted a piece of PVC Pipe on the top of the tripod... this PVC Pipe is long enough to span the width of the photo studio... I have it set up behind the Photo studio... and I hang my Backgrounds from the pipe.... this way if I want to shoot up at the subject.... I can raise the background (by raising the tripod) and not have to worry about shooting the wall behind the studio.
I dont mind sharing the tips and tricks I have learned over the years.... like I said... its my other passion.
I would love to find a container that is about twice as wide as the one I use... so i can better control the DOF... but I will prob have to make something.... I love the plastic... cause its lightweight.. and easy to get the substrate out.
FloridaHogs 11-20-2008, 07:08 PM Thanks for the tips!
