Anyone use them for adult ball pythons? Im just wondering cause Walmart has them real cheap right now and they have a ton of them I was thinking of picking up some for when I go to build a rack later. Whats everyone think of them? I noticed there not as wide but there longer than CB70's. Is the hieght the same?

I use them just fine in Animal Plastics racks. The height should be pretty close I would think, but I don't have any CB-70's... :yessir:

I have used these for years for everything from corns to boas. All my ball pythons are in them and they work great!

Im just building a rack and was hoping the cb70's and sterlite were the same hieght that way I could switch if I ever wanted to cause one thing I like about CB70 better is the smooth flat bottom.

I honestly have no issue with the bottom not being perfectly flat, but some don't like it. :dunno: But I use bedding and not paper.

Me either. It doenst bother me or the critters. I use aspen bedding so it fill the slot around the bottom anyway....

I will say one thing I like about the bottom of sterlite is when they go to the bath room usually stays in that groove that goes aorund the box and dont spread through everywere haha. $4 a peice at our local Walmart right now and with plans to build racks this spring summer I will need 80 plus extras of course and at $4 x 80 $320 sounds better than $14 x 80 $1120

Yes,

That price is right. I use CB 70s but I have more money than brains sometimes. Thanks for the post.

Just make sure you have both around when you build the rack, I have both here and the cb70's are just wide enough to mess up a well laid plan.

The 41 qts are dirt cheap and you can find them anywhere. All my BPs are in them, and I also use them for groups of leos.

I used to have 41qts. I got tired of curved floor and small floor space. As soon I went to a show and seen a CB-70, I fell in love with the floor space and thick quality of the plastic.

isnt the floor space pretty much the same on the tubs? Sterlites are 1" smaller in width but they are also 1" longer??

I use all 41qts for my adult females. And build my own racks so here is an example of one I made witht he 41qts.

Thats a 10 tub rack using the 41qts. I have also made another one just like it. I think they work awesome!

The Sterilite 41 qts are sloped from top to bottom. So they are slightly narrower at the bottom than they are at the top........

Someone posted on here that the Sterlite 41 qt tubs are not as tall as the cb70's. That's true. They seem a 1/4 inch shorter or so. You will want some height when your snakes get bigger. Ever try to push the tub back into the rack after a ball has snagged and wrapped a rat? It would be even harder with tubs that are shallower! Just my opinion.

Never had an issue with that.......:dunno: Most of the time I just open the tub far enough to get the rat in the tub and then close it. Guess everyone has different experiences. :yessir:

my findings today. I bought 1 41 QT tub just to compare it to my Vision 70 tub. I have a 11 tub Vision rack and the Sterilite 41 qt tubs do fit in it a little snug but they fit so the height cant be to much different so I decided to measure on the inside. Floor space on my Vision Tubs is 30X13.75 and 5.25 high. The Sterilite 41 qt tubs are 30.5X12.5 and 5.375 high. So really when it comes down to it you are losing .75" floor space but you gain a hair on the height .125"

I don't think there is a $10 Difference in the tubs however with the vision tubs they are tougher built but I'm not banging these things around hard enough to worry about that and you always want to keep extras around anyways.

So I think I will be going around to the local walmarts and buying them all haha. Today the walmart I went to had 27 left but the one the wife went to yesterday and a pallet full so I should be able to come up with 100 tubs.

Thanks for all the feedback about this. It will save me money and get me building my racks sooner.

Here's a pic of one of our setups. It's 3 racks of 12 and 1 rack of 7, because of the window. The 7 high gave us a place to mount flexwatt to heat our frozen rats. We built them 12 high, but only use 11 of them because Michelle doesn't like the height of the 12 box, it's about 6 feet tall. We will use the 12th slot when we totally run out of room, which will be soon. I like the 41's because of the height of the boxes, we were using 32's and I can get 12 41's in the same height as 10 32's.

Here is a pic of the other side of the room. I built 13 high on 2 of the racks, same deal as before, the upper boxes are for future expansion. That's 2 12 high 28 qt racks next to the 41's for the males.

Thanks, the 41's have 11 inch flexwatt and the 28's have 2 strips of 3 inch flexwatt. Each shelf is individually controlled by a switch so we can turn off any shelves that are not being used.

Here are some pictures that give you an idea of how we build. You have to keep in mind that we also have a full blown woodworking shop.

We use melamine for our rack shelves, we start by edgebanding the sides to seal out moisture. Then we route out a section that we staple the flexwatt into. We use lacquer to seal the exposed melamine.

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff116/artinscales/Recessforflexwatt001-1.jpg

We placed the probe under the flexwatt, we feel this gives us better control over the heat.

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff116/artinscales/flexfinal002-1.jpg

We soldier all of the connections on the flexwatt to make sure that we get a good connection. Once the racks are built, it is very difficult to make repairs. We leave enough slack on the lamp cord to make sure it will make it to the front of the rack and is placed through a hole that we mortise out before assembly.

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff116/artinscales/wiringrack003.jpg

We make all the connections and use individual switches for greater control.

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff116/artinscales/rackbuild005.jpg

This is a smaller rack, but you get the idea of the overall build.

We hope this explains more and helps you.

Here is a picture of the top of the racks that are shorter. We use an extra piece of melamine and put a piece of reflectix between it and the top of the rack, so the heat does not transfer into the top cage. This also has a switch and is plugged straight into the wall, no thermostat.

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff116/artinscales/Heat.jpg

Place food items on the "hotplate" for about an hour, flip part way through to ensure thorough heating, serve off tongs (if your snakes like to watch their food dance) and let the snakes do the rest. :wamma:

Thanks for the compliments, we have refined them a lot from the first ones we built.
