How do most of you carpwt guys keep your animals. Do you keep them in more aboreal type cages, in racks, or what? Do coastals prefer a different setup over JCP's, or are they mostly the same? I am inquiring mostly about the JCP aspect.

Looking at getting Sara's two. The female is an adult, and as docile as it gets. Just lets you pet on her head and everything. The boy is a yearling, and a little cage aggressive. I just want to make sure I house them properly. Got a nice custom 3x2x2 cage I was wanting to put the female in. It is a nice display cage. Have another display for the male that is the same footprint as a 28 qt sterlite, but about 3x the height. Trying to figure out if those would be good for them or not.

I keep mine in semi aboreal cages. But then again i only have IJ's now.
But in the past with the JCP's and Coastals i have noticed they do not turn down a couple perches in the cage, and have no problem utilizing them.

I have one jungle carpet and I keep her in more of a aboreal cage. She was always in the branches when she was younger and lays more on the floor of the cage now. She still gets up in the branches so I keep her in that setting. I tried a less of a aboreal type cage and she just didn't like it.

I know!!!! It is a money matter. I have enough for the female, working on the $$ for the male. Really need to sale a few things! (like about 75 tricolors!! LOL!!) She is being patient though. With school and all she is realling having to downsize.

Thanks John. The cages I hve in mind are more half n half. Not really one or the other if that make sense.

I keep mine in 4x3 cages and there about 3ft high. I have 1 adult jcp and 1 adult jcp/coastal. I also have 2 6month old jcp's . I notice that the babies love the branches and hang in them alot. I use one of those reptile vines and twist it around. My one adult jcp basks on a branch during the day for a few hours but most of the time he hangs out on top of his hide. The jcp/coastal lays on the bottom most of the time.

Well how mine happened was  It was a Anole setup for about 4-5 anoles. It's 30x30x18 aquarium. They died and I got this baby carpet female from NERD when I visited them. She loves the setup and still does. Now she's not a looker by all means more of a cross. I was hoping she'd have more yellow to her then she does =( But still she is a sweet heart and I love her. She's in shed right now or I would post pictures. I will as soon as she sheds though. Maybe some of the cage as well =)

My opinion probably won't be very popular, but I keep my carpets in rack systems. I will be moving all mine over to them within the next 2-5 weeks and I have no problem doing so. If you opt to go this way, I would recommend using the cb 75 tubs for small jungles and Irian Jayas and the VE 175 for large coastals.

i dont have any jungles but i think they're somewhat more arborel then coastals. i have mostly coastals but my larger ones are in 4x2x2 cages and my smaller ones are in 2x2x2 cages at the moment. id just say what ever size u put them in just make a perch in it for them to perch on and you should be fine. i know alot of people that actually keep them in racks but i prefer cages for all of mine lol.

I have a small perch built into my VE175 for the coastal now...she uses it all the time.

If you have the display cages and the room go for it but racks work well IMO.

Jeff/Dave-

Please explain what your rack systems are and where I can get some. I really wanted to use cages, but I might go to racks for space. Thanks..

I only have 2, well one really (the other one is a diamond but...). I use the VE175 containers that reptile tubs.com sells (or walmart in about 2 weeks) they measure 20"w x 53" l x 15" h. I wired some heat tape to the underside of the lid and just stack them on a dresser. Those really work well even with the bloods in length and width.

I installed a removable perch using a large log and some hook and eyes that I attached to the side of the plastic.

May not be the prettiest thing in the world but they do work. At that size you could build a large rack system where the big tubs would slide out and you could mount the heat tape directly to the rack instead of the tub.

Jeff....:master: :yourock: I think you just went a long way toward solving my getting a snake problem. I wanted a quality cage, but I also want more than one snake and your solution means I can have quality and (hopefully) quantity. THANK YOU! Could I use wood for the rack, or would I have to go to melamine or plastic? Thanks again for your help.

Jeff can be a pretty smart guy sometimes ! Ok Ok, all the time when reptiles are involved. I might actually be getting an irian jaya carpet from a woman my boss is friends with. She says it's been really bitey lately. It's about 6 years old and 7+ft long. I'm thinking if I do I'll be setting something up like Jeff's got. We'll see what happens!

Gator,

My racks are not built yet, but in a nutshell, they are ARS racks built out of plywood. They might not look good, but they are cheap.

Here is an ARS for reference.

I tried to find it but no luck, there were some retic guys who had racks built using the large tubs. They had to slide out sideways due to the length but you get the idea...just some wooden 2x4 and plywood painted with a marine paint. Damn wish I could find the link...nice rack considering the size of the cages.

Here is one close just picture it completely covered and painted up nicely...

http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=90093

Here is the one that AP used to make...don't think they do anymore but I considered it if I could have found a place for it to go...pulling out a tub 4 feet on top of the 5 feet it is already away from the wall wasn't going to work for me here...

http://www.animalplastics.com/new.htm

This one I always liked to show the size of the tub....

Guess the other pics just vanished into the net somewhere....

Hope any of this can help....
