Anyone out there use a humidifier for their snake room in the winter? The space heater kills my humidity and my current humidifier sucks... Any opinions on a good one?

nope, no need too... Use cypress mulch or some other humidity loving substrate and spray and dump water in it...

yes i do cause the room with the space heater houses the cresteds and the BRB. I have a huge stand up wooden humidifier we got from the inlaws. but mostly any good humidifier from wal mart should rise the humidity enough. the balls doesnt need to be too high. more importantly i just make sure they have plenty of water and keep an eye on the signs of sheddig and raise the cage humidity with a quick mist. and as scruby says you can add cypress mulch if its really a worry. its the best for rasing humidity without all the mold

I use a humidifier. But am thinking about trying the cypress mulch as well to see if I can avoid using one maybe.

Yes, humidity is a major problem here all year round.... we are basically high plains dessert. I run a whole house Holmes humidifier and two room sized humidifiers to keep the 8X22ft room above 70% percent. If I ran nothing, the room runs below 20%

My house has really crappy humidity as well. I run a whole house one in my room, since I'm originally from FL and my skin can't take the dryness. I also run a large room one in the snake room. They're both Holmes from Walmart. I got them off season really cheap. They work great, and keep the rooms at a good 60% - 65%. It ensures that I only have to mist on occassion to keep the relative humidity up, well, at least for the ones that will drink out of a water bowl. Damn you you ATBs, Green Tree Monitr and Cresties... If it wasn't for you guys, I wouldn't have to run around misting like an idiot.

My snakes are in the basement of my house so it tends to stay fairly humid down there. Every once in a while I'll peek at the hygrometer and it'll be down around 40% but I just mist the aspen lightly and it'll get back up quite quickly.

However, now that it's getting colder I'm having to run a ceramic based electric space heater down in the room 24/7 to keep the temp around 75 which I have noticed has dropped the RH to around 30% but the tubs in the rack seem to be fine. I just have to keep a closer eye on them.

The humidity is horrible here in the winter... but that said, I don't run a humidifier...I just keep the tubs misted and that's that.

I got the same ones from wal-mart too.... but onto a more pressing matter, I'd love to see a youtube of you running around misting....LOL

My room stays around 75% - 80% now because I added another room size one at the oppostie end of the room. 3 in one room... lol.... but it works, my skin likes it too!

LOL. I'm sure it would be interesting. I've actually been working on dropping the hints to the wife that I want to get this HD digital camcorder thingy I've seen. I'm thinking another week or so and she might break down and let me buy it.

It does suck that those little buggers refuse to use a water bowl. I've tried elevated ones for the ATB's and the monitor, but they seem to prefer me misting them. I have to sit there for a while with the monitor too, just to make sure he's had enough to drink. Plus all the little crestie babies I've got now that won't drink anything but droplets on the walls. Two more hatched out last night AND one of my females just laid 2 more eggs last night. I thought I was done with crestie eggs for the rest of the year. Sperm retentioning little bastards.

I'm gonna have to try adding another one. Sounds like it might help out and make it so I don't hear that fan kick on and off every 3 seconds.
