View Full Version : Books on Tarantulas
JOHNS6068 01-09-2010, 02:18 PM Is there any recommendations on good books out there about tarantulas that you like??? I'm getting the itch to get a couple possibly here in the future....and just wanted to read up on the different ones that are out there....as in how their needs vary and all between them...Even if I don't get any I'm still very interested in finding a nice book on them...:yessir:
Thanks ahead of time
jayefbe 01-09-2010, 05:19 PM The Tarantula Keeper's Guide by the Stan and Marguerite Schultz is the best book out there. It's now in its third edition which I would recommend buying, although you might be able to find an older edition for a bit cheaper.
Amazon.com: The Tarantula Keeper's Guide: Comprehensive Information on Care, Housing, and Feeding (9780764138850): Stanley A. Schultz, Marguerite J. Schultz: Books
What kind of T's are you thinking about getting?

Problem is then you are looking at mostly the old world stuff and brother they are not your starter ones...lol
Are you looking to handle it or just look at it? Are you thinking of display or anything will do? Colors or no colors? Size an issue and do you want it to be arboreal?
All good starter questions for yourself while your looking around....

I know
I'm not looking for one to handle a lot necessarily...Colorful is a plus....Size doesn't bother me....arboreal or not is not an issue either....
I like the looks of the Venezuelan Suntigers and the Usambara Baboon to be honest....been reading up on them...The Baboon seem easy enough to care for from what I read on them so far....Lower humidity requirement which is a plus...I like their Orange color..
I love this description on the Usambara Baboon:
Temperment:
She's a firey, psycotic beast. Fortunately, she's not prone to running around like the cobalt, but she'll basically flip over backwards in her threat position, striking at the air, jumping around and hissing. Combined with her bright, firey colors, she closely resembles a flaming ball of death. Not to be messed with at all!
Actually that's not much worse then how the wife described the wolf spiders that where in the house :lmao::lmao::lmao:
tokaysunlimited 01-10-2010, 06:49 AM Shoot me a pm man..I got some GOOD books for ya.

That is actually a really good description, most of the time you read pansy ass ways to describe them but that one seems accurate
Jeremy is the book, I research and then just ask him questions....lol

JChandler 01-10-2010, 08:16 AM John as a friend I don't think that a tarantula is the right pet for you...maybe look into scorps or a colony of roaches http://www.kolobok.us/smiles/madhouse/tease.gif
