SO.. in honor of my two newest additions (pics soon :D ), and my crestie, im going to be starting up a small dubia roach colony. I've been speaking to Ian at the RoachRanch and he's been super helpful.

I have my roach home and my flex ordered for them (damn things are going to be warmer than i am  ).

Anything special I should know? Anyone here work with them?

Keep them the warmer the better and give them veggies and avoid mold with them and they will multiply quickly :yessir:

They love the hot wing sauce on bread from subway. Oh, and some fruit, they love them some watermelon and mango!

In other words they are roaches...lol

Feed them anything, personally I use ground up dog food and when I really need to stimulate the colony I bump the heat and add some of the powered weight gain stuff from the health food store....they really love the chocolate variety.

I have had the same colony up and running for years now, just watch the humidity or lack of I should say and keep them warm when you want massive amounts of breeding...I do a complete change out every 6-9 months of them, clearing away the dead and replacing the egg crate but otherwise they are a real easy going insect.

I need to find more places that sell the polymer crystals again since the place on ebay I used to get them isn't there anymore...

should i put the flex on the bottom or on one of the sides (outside). Im planning on setting it at 90 or 92.

Where is a good place to get more egg crate? I've got a starter kit coming with my roaches so i have some for now (and the water crystals).

Thanks for all the info guys :) I already picked them up some pears that need to ripen a bit but ive got some fruit salad and apples and ill get some watermelon perhaps.

Oh and they love greens, surprisingly they won't go after anything that has started to turn so you still have to pick off the rotten stuff...

or check with local schools and places that do breakfast, I get all of mine from the high school when they remember to save them for me...

I would heat the bottom and you can run them up to about 105 at the bottom giving them a really nice gradient to the top of the container and they will breed like mad, within a few months a small colony will look like a large colony...
