Hi guys.

My female retic has been acting strange for a week or so. She refused food a week ago (VERY unlike her) and yesterday she refused again at first and started pushing and cruising the cage (something she has never done). It is in the middle of summer down here in South Africa and I thought she could not possibly be looking for some love, but as she was not eating and the male ate 2 days ago I tossed her in with him. Nothing happened and she continued cruising. After about 5 min she started lifting her tail and I saw she was pursing her cloacae so that a small segment was rubbing on the floor, she was also twitching her tail. The segment that was outside was bloody and she seemed to want to rub this all over the cage. At this point I took her out of the males cage and put her back in her viv. She immediately stopped lifting her tail and settled down. When I came back this morning she had eaten one of the 2 piglets and a jumbo rat during the night.
I am a bit concerned as she had a intestinal cyst about a year ago that needed surgery to remove-I cannot feel any lumps and she still defecates fine (last time she was blocked and you could feel the cyst from the outside).
Has anybody had anything similar happen to them? Or advice to offer?
Both retics are about 3 years old and have never bred.
Thanks.
Cheers
DAN

Can you contact the vet who did her surgery . It would be horrible to loose her after all you both went through . Good luck and I hope it is not serious .

puberty... seems like normal to me. females go off food and want to breed. she is giving all the signs, looks like the male just wasn't interested.

Woulda been my guess to Dan, but I'm not a big snake guy.

I'd agree with Damons statement. sounds very logical to me.
