Here it is as bluntly and straight forward as I can put it for everyone. David wants out of Reptster! (ya dont say.... cant imagine why) He has two other business ventures and Reptster no longer holds anything for him. (ya dont say.... cant imagine why)This is why we do not see David posting here at a time when he should be living here! He has wanted to move on to other things and while he continued to work with UPS and the programmers on/off. He simply does not feel like dealing with the site any more. Regardless, David is not happy with the site and wants out! David and I spoke this afternoon and before he calls it quits and lets it go, he asked me if I wanted the site?

This is something we have discussed now for a few days as a co-ownership agreement. I recently decided I did not want to take this on as a co-owner due to all the baggage and pending issues associated with Reptster/David along with other issues. I stepped down as forum Admin on Sunday and was done. I posted a thread here announcing my stepping down as Admin, but somehow it miraculously disappeared...

Anyways; I just thought you all should know where things are and where the site stands. I believe you all deserve some information. Many of you on/off the site are waiting for any update regarding to shipping. I just read and posted this morning that FedEx will be raising rates 7% next year. So I can see where many of you are concerned with shipping costs.

I was considering taking on the site, but decided not to! In light of David's decision to step away completly from the site I may once again consider taking this on. I have no idea what this means! Nor by no means am I saying yes just yet! BEFORE I make any decision! I need to see what exactly I'm dealing with and if there is any hope here?! I had made some demands such as to see the UPS contract/agreement myself. Ask to speak with the programmer and see the status of the UPS program myself. Asked to speak with UPS rep handling Reptster myself! I would like to see where this is REALLY at and if I decide to keep the site, do I want to take this on or cut it loose?! I love Reptster and the concept it was! I just don't like where it has gone, or how things have been handled around here and the direction it has taken!

As mentioned above, I am not making any decision yet! I have a lot to evaluate and consider, work load, costs, expenses, maintenance, upgrades, what to keep, what to cut, etc, etc. Question whether I want this or not?!

I may decide after looking at everything involved and everything on the table; that I want no part of this! I may decide just to keep the site, maintain the site itself, and build it w/out any of the shipping. I want to see everything on UPS before considering following through with UPS and providing that service. Maybe even go back to FedEx at some point to posibly have both online? I have ZERO experience at all dealing with any of this! I have ZERO programming skills and can barely use Excel! I have ZERO knowledge of UPS/FedEx other than how to prepare and ship my own packages! There is a lot of work to be done here!

All I know is; David wants out and Reptster is no longer a part of his focus or agenda. The question on the table is, will I take this on and if I do, at what level do I want to keep it? Or do we just keep posting away here until the hosting company shuts Reptster down for lack of payment and/or communication in 1-3MO?

I just wanted to think out loud here and update you all on the situation with Reptster and at the same time get your input. I already reached out to a few for their advise on this topic. If I decide this is too much for me to handle; I will tell you ASAP and also let you know what you're looking at. If I decide to take this on; I will also keep you posted on what we're dealing with and may even ask for some help from some of you more program savvy members out there.

At the moment I am simply trying to get as much out of David as I can to make a conscious decision. As some of you can imagine this is not always easy! It's like asking that employee/co-worker for that monthly report; who hated their job and is also leaving next week for a better paying job elsewhere!

I'll keep you all posted one way or the other from my end, but this is pretty much where the site stands as of today. I'm not speaking for Reptster and have no idea what is going on; other than there will be some changes one way or another.

Sounds like David ran it into the ground with no regard for anyone and then wants to unload what's left of the steaming mass onto Gerry.... Great business!

I'd be interested to know what else (If anything) David gets into so I can steer clear of it....

When I first heard about Reptster I thought it was a great idea. Why not? Get a nice discount and ship your animals. At first they were even giving away free boxes. I still have a couple.

Then we all know what happened next.

I still think its a great idea if it could be executed properly.

Gerry is a class act. Ive talked to Gerry through email quite a bit. As a matter of fact one of my gecko trios (Jungle het albino poss het raptor, stripe het albino poss het raptor and a mack snow) came from him. He's a cool guy. He's got integrity, hes got heart and hes got a passion for this hobby. I just dont know if Reptster is beyond repair at this point. Im afraid he might be jumping onto a sinking ship. But the final decision is his.

Ill tell ya this much, if Gerry does decide to take this on I guaran-F'N-tee you it will be a whole lot differnt. No doubt about it. If it were me Id run for the hills. If Gerry decides to fight the good fight and try to rebuild something that could have been a good thing he's got my support.

There are no doubts about Gerry, but trying to rebuild something that has taken on so much water and carries a horrible rep may not be a good idea. I'd support him too, but maybe he can get something similar going minus the baggage?

Sad to hear because the concept was good, but I didn't find the shipping any cheaper and more of a headache.

the shipping was cheaper lol. 45 dollars to 50 to ship wasnt bad considering it cost alot of people 65 to ship and now with the increase thats coming probably around 75 to 80 to ship so thats going ot take affect on what people buy imo because alot of us cant afford to spend 3 or 400 on a pet then cost us almost another 100 for shipping. so my question is will the price of the reptiles come down to help with shipping or will alot of people be stuck holding them because shipping is so high and no one wants to pay that extra 45 to 50 shipping.

That is your experience. When I used it, it was the same price within about 3 dollars. I used it over my own account because the customer asked me to. No other reason than that. It did not have all of the "options" that I have available on my own account. I found it to be a disappointment. However, to the person that is not certified, it was a wonderful tool.

The last box I shipped, last month (yeah I am a huge shipper..lol) was 61 and some change even with the surcharges and the one box through them cost me 52 so I really wasn't seeing a huge difference in price...the 10 dollars is piece of mind for me being able to call my rep at any time.

that i agree with but for people like myself that never ships hardly and isnt certified repster was a good deal for us. but even if 10 or 15 bucks cheaper for people that are certified i guess the ease of mind shipping yourself would be alot easier and a better choice.

I would have liked to see it work, no doubt in that. I like the idea of saving money just as much as the next person....but I do wonder now if the certification thing was as much of a lie as some of the other stuff that happened.

Was it just a false sense of security or were they official when you watched the video and shipped? I don't know and we probably will never know, especially now with the way things ended with fedex and the way the site seems to be ending.

I saved on average $20 each time I shipped with Reptster. It was a great savings I past on to my customers. I loved the concept and had high hopes for it.

I've known Gerry for quite a few years now. He's a great guy! If anyone could make it work, Gerry can. However, David would have to be totally out of the picture.

The problem is, the site was poorly designed. Great idea, but it was built in too many pieces and does not flow. I do internet/computer security for a living. Security assessments and penetration testing. I can tear that site apart. It IS NOT secure! I've even shown David examples. This would all need to be fixed.

My advice to Gerry would be to walk.... no run as fast as he can from that deal. David ran that place into the ground and burned a lot of people. The Reptster name will always be associated with this debocal.....

Run Gerry, RUN!!!!!!!!!!

That's sad to see, it was a great idea and I really thought he could make it work but David ran his business like such a scumbag. He screwed over so many people. I really liked the idea of being able to ship for less but I was extremely hesitant to use them due to all the TERRIBLE feedback I was hearing. I guess I'll have to go get FedEx certified which shouldn't be that big a deal. Plus I won't be doing any shipping for at least 6 months.

I must apologize as this will be my last post on this site. I will not be taking any part of Reptster nor do I want to be associated with it at this time. Good luck to everyone!

As mentioned in my "Last day as Admin thread"....this has nothing to do with the members here as you all have been great! I could not ask for a better group of friends!

Hell yeah he did.... I still wanna know what David Young gets involved in. Or maybe that's just a load of BS from David as well, being he specializes in it.

i think he would be a plus here also, and maybe just maybe he will let us know what came about to go from not knowing if he would take it to a definate no. i think its possible david couldnt produce the contract for fedex or ups but who knows all we can do at the moment is assume that but maybe gerry can give us a little more detail on the situation. i myself would agree with everyone else i do think repster was to far gone for gerry to save it but i applaud him in atleast thinking of trying to salvage it and try to make it better after what david had done. i dont know gerry personally but i have heard alot of good things about him and from what i have seen or read i think he has alot of heart, soul, and dedication to the herp industry like many other loyal herpers and feel he would make a great addition to any place he goes and would get the respect he deserves.

For those that are talking about real high shipping costs... what size boxes are you using?

I decided to run some figures to show the differences. Keep in mind.. this is without any of the discounts as I did not log in.

12x12x8 2lb box $80.76
12x8x6 2lb box $63.41

Just by changing the box size just a bit... you can get alot of savings.

I shipped a 12x9x6 1.5lb superior box from FL to Colorado yesterday. The total was $61.36.

That is true, but I try to ship with maximum insulation (2"). I will not sacrafice insulation to go with a smaller box. I go as small as I can, but there are limitations. My thinking was different until some babies arrived frozen solid in an insulated box with a heat pack. Now, I probably over kill with my insulation but oh well. In temperate weather (no packs required) I do ship the standard 1", but that is a very, very short window for me. Policies change when you learn painful lessons.
