Wondering how many adult rats I can comfortably keep in a cement mixing tub- those big black ones from lowes/home depot.

Going to use them for breeding the adults... I was thinking 1.5 ???

Also wanting to use them as grow out racks ... how many weaned - smalls could I keep in one tub?

I keep 1.3 -1.4 so not to over crowd when babies come. I would say you can 20 -25 weaned-small rats in one tub.

I used to keep them at 1.3 or 1.4 same as Thomas. Any more than that and you started running into issues with babies being bulldozed into corners by the adults and I lost a lot of pinks with too crowded tubs.

I agree. I have had 1.5 but I was pulling most of the pinks and the one female was a younger one.

I was doing 1.4 with good success, but am now experimenting with 1.3 to see how it goes. I have a feeling it will be better.

How many could I keep in there if I'm using a birthing rack?
I'll pull the big preggo moms out weekly and put them in the birth rack and replace the preggo ones with a fresh mom.

1 to 5 is good if your pulling out the pregers. :cheers:

Be sure of the tubs you buy. Some types are basically ribbed and some are smooth along the bottom. Rats will chew throught the ribbed type real fast. Also check and see if they have different types with different thickness's. Thicker one's will hold up better and twist/bow less/

If you're pulling pregos ya I'd go with 1.5...
