View Full Version : Barrons Racers
Bruce has alot of fun with these. They are really calm out of the cage, not like your 'typical' racer. They have bred for us the past couple of years, and last year we had a blue thrown! Holding him back for sure, and there's one female that gets a tint of blue so we're assuming that she's the mom and he'll be going back to her next year. (They are in a group, which is why not 100% on the parentage) Here's a picture of the group, as well as one of the gorgeous blue.
Melanie 02-01-2010, 09:58 PM Those are awesome Sara! 'Specially that blue one! :D
Buckskin 02-01-2010, 10:03 PM Very cool. Good luck
Was funny, the blue didn't even come out right away, and then at first Bruce figured it was in shed. That was at a couple of months, I think? He can clarify. Anyway, I am sure that from now on we'll be holding them back for at least 3 or 4 months before selling the offspring!
JChandler 02-01-2010, 10:13 PM Really cool project and the holdback is smoking!
Mrs. Sputnik 02-01-2010, 10:14 PM unusual but cool

Thanks Jeff! I even really like that blue!:cheers:
unusual but cool
Thanks Liz! They are kinda unusual, should have found a close up pic, they have this little point sticking out the front of the nose, it's cute! Not like a hognose point, more like a sharp stick out thing...

FloridaHogs 02-02-2010, 03:07 PM Love those colors! Reminds me of the green mambas! Yeah, let us know when you produce some!
panhead 02-02-2010, 05:59 PM The blue one was from our first breeeding's in 2008. We produced three clutches in 2009from two females, one double clutched on her own as there are 3.2 in a large display cage. We still have a few 09's left. The adults breed throughout the year but eggs have always been laid in May or June.

I am not aware of a "blue" locality specific morph of barron's. This one just hatched out from my normal green colored group, but his blue color did not start to come in till after a few shed's.

Doug Taylor 02-05-2010, 01:36 AM I thought the blue ones were a locality??
I imported a bunch of these 4-5 years ago from a friend in Uruguay. From the pair I kept, there was lots of variation. Some went from nice green to almost black back to green. Some went blue and some went bluer.
If you like seeing variation, work with Baroni. I do recommend using hooks to let them know you are going to handle them. No sense in tempting the bite-first attitude. Once in hand they're not interested in biting.

LOL... Tokay won't mind tempting the bite-first attitude. You telling him to use hooks is kinda like telling a drunk that bottle of stuff will get you drunk fast....

Good point on that one!!!:lmao::lmao::lmao:
Becca has been bitten but never allowed them to chew on her, she's been fine. Think the first time scared her so she had a little woozy type feeling, but that was because of the adrenaline...
Charles Shanklin 02-14-2010, 04:24 PM I like baroni, ended up moving the ones I had out to add more hogs.
