Would anyone like to see what Pure Colombian Locality Hypos look like?

Not bad huh? I wanted to wait till these guys had a few meals before I offered any for sale because I knew they would look a whole lot better after a little while. Was I right?

These babies represent the very first captive born pure Colombian Hypomelanistic Boas produced in captivity! The father was imported into the US in 2002. He was acquired through Strictly Reptiles in 2002. This male was bred to a pure Colombian Boa from one of my original bloodline. A detailed History is included at the bottom of this page for those who are interested in reading all about this Hypo and his adventures in breeding up till this point.

These Hypos are much much nicer looking than every single other F1 Hypo that I have ever seen. They seem to on average have fewer cross bars than the other Hypos which are mostly descendants of the original female that was imported to the US from Panama in the 1980s. I have had a number of F1 animals from that same original female myself and these blow them away. Look for yourself. The color of these Hypos is as good as it gets. I am very pleased with how they have turned out so far.

Erich Gaertner acquired an imported baby male Hypo Colombian Boa in the Spring of 2002. I was fortunate to acquire this animal directly from Erich in the fall of 2003. After five seasons of trying, I was finally successful breeding this pure Colombian Hypomelanistic Boa and producing the first pure Hypomelanistic Colombian Boas in captivity April 23, 2008. I actually have stubbornly been trying to get him to breed one female in particular. A Rob Tudehope produced Pastel that I bought from Rob about 13 or 14 years ago. She has yet to produce for me. I have had this Hypo in trying to breed that female for the past four breeding seasons. No more. This year he got a new younger girl. This girl is a pure Colombian DuBay Pastel that coincidentally was produced by Erich 8 or 9 years ago. The DuBay Bloodline was named for an animal that Joel DuBay produced in about 1995. I actually produced her mother in 1989. I was hoping finally, to have some true all Colombian bloodline Hypos maybe in the spring. I can trace the lineage back on the mother of these babies back to the early 1980's on one side, and the 1970's on the other. She is descended from Colombian imports. Not that Colombian imports are particularly hard to find actually. But she has no other morphs or anything of that sort in her background. This is the first time she has ever been bred.

This is a picture of the imported Colombian Hypo taken on the floor at Strictly where John Carlson bought her for Erich Gaertner in May of 2002:

Some of the most important parts of verifying the truth of a story are, the credibility of the tale, the integrity of those involved in that story, and the verifiable documentation to back up that story(s). In this case, the documentation and story go back more than six years. In May of 2002, Erich Gaertner first purchased a baby Hypo Colombian Boa from Strictly Reptiles through John Carlson. John Carlson was hand picking some stuff at Strictly Reptiles in Florida. John told his friend Erich that he would look through the Boas to see if there was anything of interest. It should be noted that Strictly placed no particular extra special value on this critter at the time that John Carlson picked him up. John bought this Hypo from Strictly for the princely sum of $50! This was about 1/10th what a horrible Hypo would have sold for at that time, but nobody at Strictly had picked up on the fact that this Colombian Boa was in fact a Hypo. Still, they may or may not have been aware how important a find like this actually was. But, Erich knew and so did I as I congratulated Erich on his new found Treasure at the time. Erich tells some of this story at the following links:

Click here to read a post on kingsnake.com where Erich refers to the original import Colombian Hypo for the first time. Post Date: September 19, 2002 (http://forum.kingsnake.com/boa/messages/132291.html)

Click here to read Erich's second post referring to this Hypo after acquiring it in May of 2002. Post Date: April 1, 2003 (http://www.boaconstrictor.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2993&highlight=Exclusively+Exotics)

Here are a few other posts where I spoke about this Boa long ago showing the history of this Hypo. The pictures from these older posts do not work because of a glitch in the software for the forum transfers that lost all the images prior to the transfer. Please note that lots of known other people have heard about this animal over these years. In fact many including Jonathan Brady, Randy Tanner, Larry M., Ed Lilly, Darrin Brasher, Dan Klopson and Chris Gilbert will find their follow-up posts after posts where I or Erich talk about this animal. I just had not bred him successfully till now. That's the tale.

Damn those sure are red. That tail is just wicked, man you hit the jackpot with those babies. Talk about a stable market, true locality morphs like those pictures are a pretty much untapped part of the hobby. As far as I know anyway.

It's hard enough getting true prue locality stuff let alone morphs.. Damn thats taking the game up a notch.. Sweet action there Jeff thanks for posting..

Was the original man just a little slow getting going?

Thank you very much everyone! The little guy worked like crazy to get her done those first years with that Tudehope Pastel, but that female just would not ovulate for anything. I still have her too. She is a nice chunky 8' snake. Maybe I'll try her this year, but not with anything that's very important! LOL

Thanks for everyone else's compliments too. There are lots of other really great Hypos out there to be sure. But I haven't seen any F1 Hypos that compare to these. The most important thing is of course they are PURE Colombian. I have lots of the other ones too and they are farther down the "outrageous Hypo" road than these Colombian Hypos are, at least on their first outing. For instance, here is another Hypo that is an F4 Orange Tail Hypo descended from the originator of all the Panamanian type Hypos out there.:

This babies Mommy and the Mommy of the PURE Colombian Hypos are actually Sisters too. Pretty neat stuff.

Thanks again!
