Hi Everyone,
After reading and posting in another thread I figured I might as well share a couple of pictures of the pair we have. These are one of my favorite colubrids. I think in the very short future we will start to see more recessive traits starting to pop in in them as more breeders work with them. Here are a couple of pictures of our pair. Thanks for looking and I hope you like.

Are you sure they are pure grey's? Just wondering if there might be some other rat influences there... mine are pure grey, as no other rat snakes occur in this area.

Thanks for all the great replies. I am happy you enjoyed them. As you will see I really like taking photographs of our collection and tend to post quite a few. I guess I'm just a picture whore. ;)

Yes, they are 100% Grey Rat. I purchased this pair from reputable breeders. The pictures of the female were taken in not so good lighting so the coloration tends to be a little dull. The pictures of the male are true to color. I will try to find the link that discusses the "Malt Phase" in Grey Rats and post it for you. It is not yet proven whether it is a true reseccive trait or something that is just random. The burgandy coloration doesn't show up until the animal reaches maturity. Therefore, there is no proven way to visually identify one as a baby.
So you can see the females coloration here are a couple of pictures of her in better lighting. She is very light for a Grey. Hence the name "White Oak".

We bred them for the first time last season and got a very nice clutch. All of the babies had typical Grey Rat coloration with a light background and dark grey star blotches down their backs. Most of them had the light grey color to the iris found in Grey Rats but a couple of them had a yellowish pigment to the iris'. Are these the ones that will turn into "Malt Phase" and the ones with the light iris' turn into "White Oaks"? Time and more work will tell. The more people that work with them should prove this and possibly pull out more true reseccives in the Grey Rat Snake. Please feel free to post any and all of your pictures of the Grey's in your collection. I would like to see them. Here are a few pictures of the clutch they produced for us last year. Again, thanks for looking and I hope you like.

Nice pics Jay! Hey are you guys going to be at the Manchester show this spring? I'd love to see some of them in person. How big do the gray rats get? I've been trying to keep my colubrid collection on the small side (hognose kings etc...) but I wouldn't mind having a nice looking gray rat or two around lol.

More like one that decided to take up residence in our chicken coop and help himself to all of our fresh eggs! Took us a loooong time to figure out why egg production was down :D

Hey!!

Those are my greys!

Mr. Grey is well over 6 ft long, very calm, easy to hold. He actually sits still and coils around your arms. It's like holding the big boas, he wants to be supported and then sits still. His size is deceiving because he coils around you, but if you let him hang down, you get to see just how long he really is.

Wiley is almost 5 ft long now. Seems like she laid her first clutch and her coloration has changed a bit. She doesnt stay as light in between sheds like she used to. Interesting to say the least. This winter she has gotten bigger!

I was thinking of not breeding the pair this year but IF I knew I had interested parties, I just might be talked into it. The pair is not related as well.

We have another pair of greys but I am not sure if the female is a full grey. She is tan and copper colored! NO she is not a full yellow rat; we have a female yellow we bred last year. I will have to look into getting their pictures up so we can talk about the female and see if anyone out there has any ideas what she is and what to do with her. She is great no matter what, but I would love to know more about her.

Locality is on of the best ways to figure out what is going on with the rats, so if you could find out thier locality it would help greatly. Even if they are F1 or F2, the locality is the key with the greys. I think it is the only way to confirm purity, since the rats naturally interbreed in the wild where their ranges overlap.

I gotta say I love Wiley, i coveted her from the get go and I am glad to say one of her babies is doing fantastic here. She eating fine and growing fast.
