Just felt like postin' about me comics :)

I've been a comic book fan since I could read. At one time I was a fanatical collector. I dont even know how many I have. Boxes and boxes. I went to the shows, the whole nine yards. Big dork. You betcha.

I dont collect any where near what I used to. I was like a maniac, I had to have every almost every book that came out. Over the years, comics have changed a bit. Some for the good, some not so good. Plus, now that I am a big boy I dont have as much time as I did so I cant follow the stories. What I usually do now is pick up the paperback versions that collect an entire storyline. Like Planet Hulk which I got recently which is amazing.

I collected mainly Marvel but in the past Ive dabbled in some other publishers. Not too much DC except for the Frank Miller Batmans and a few others. I have a decent Judge Dredd collection. And some horror comics and one shots from various independents. Also the first 30 issues of Spawn.

Now I just subscribe to a few books. Spider-Man is my all time favorite so I get that and a couple others. And a couple times a year I treat myself to a key Silver Age book that I want. My most recent purchase was Amazing Spider Man #6 from 1963 first appearance of the Lizard. Big surprise there, huh? I had a copy of this book but it was missing half the cover and was otherwise in very, very poor condition. Ive always wanted a nice copy. Found one for a riduclous price and grabbed it. Not near mint but a solid copy Here she is:

Im happy with it. Id love a graded 9.0 or better but not really keen on spending 10K on a comic. Im not that far gone.

Luckily I saved my comics when I was a teenager and took care of them. Some of the books I bought for a dollar are now worth quite a bit. I dont have REALLY expensive books but Ive got some that are worth a decent chunk o change. Problem is I love them so much I have never sold a comic, LOL! Even when I bought 10 copies of Spider Man #1 by MacFarlene I still have them all. Im bad.

I have the first appearance of the Punisher, the first Hulk vs Thing fight, the first Wolverine, lots of old X-men, all sorts of fun stuff.

My most cherished book is Amazing Spider Man #17 second Green Goblin appearance signed by Stan "The Man" Lee. My hands shake whenever I touch it. It hasnt left its mylar sleeve in 21 years. And it never will! Ill die with that book! LOL!

The main reason I got into comics was its a great way to pick up chicks.

Hahahahahahahahahaha...oh forgive me....it makes me laugh whenever I type that. Comic books are chick repellent. Know a great method of birth control? Show a girl your comic book collection. Done deal. ROFL!

I dunno. I love super heroes. Always have. I love the stories, the fantasy, the art, everything. Love it, love it, love it. So many years of entertainment.
And I love passing it on. Marvel makes some special books just for kids. I read them to my girlfriends 3 year old son. He loves Spider Man and, thanks to me heh, has lots of Spider gear including a wicked pair of Spider slippers. I had to get him some Spidey toys because he kept trying to play with mine. No no no those are MINE! :nono:

Any other comicy people out there? C'mon dont be shy. Gotta be at least a couple. Here's a question:

How come the Human Torch's costume doesnt burst into flames when he does and why does the Invisible Woman's costume turn invisible with her? If you can answer that you're a dork. Bravo!

AND...bonus question...who solved that problem with the costumes and why? BIG dork points if you can answer THAT!

Was always a fan, but not a huge collector.

Like you I currently collect paperback graphic novels. I'm also very particular, and often usually stick to a particular artist more than I do specific characters or storylines.

I like the greats, Jim Lee, Alex Ross and Michael Turner (who doesn't?), the first two which are pretty exclusive to DC.

I also like Humberto Ramos and his work with the Spectacular Spiderman series and related storylines.

And in addition, I really like the work of Mike Mignola in his Hellboy comics.

I hear that. Although I tend to follow writers more than artists. And I do follow some characters since I like to see in what direction a different artist and/or writer might take that character.

I really enjoyed the work that J. Michael Straczynski and John Romita Jr. did with Amazing Spider-Man. I have a bunch of those graphic novels. Wonderul stories.

Love Hellboy. Mignola is awesome.

I slo have some other not famous books i picked up and did like a mini series of some and got like the first 10 editions of spawn. all together I think my collection last time I checked was worth under 10K but maybe if I keep them till i get like 80 they can be worth something ha ha

HUGE comic fan! I was a DC guy all the way, but I occasionally delved into the Marvel Universe. I don't really read any now;it seems like everyone wants to do graphic novels..

I like it E-pig. Thats a damn fine Wolvie. I love when he's drawn primal, beast-like.

Yup, I got loads of Wolvie. I got his first 4 book limited series from way back in the day. Most of his run in his own series. To be honest as it went on I kinda lost interest. The art was ehhh the writing was stale. I love the Wolverine character but I dont think he was portrayed all that well in the later stages of that series.

Yes, lots of graphic novels. I kinda like it. In the olden days you would buy a book..lets say Spider Man #47 and that would start a story. It might run through 48 and 49 and then done. On to the next story. But now with so many crossovers and what not I just dont have the time to hunt down every book so I can read a complete story. So I like the graphic novels and especially the trade paperbacks that collect perhapsa whole storyline from God knows how many books and put it all in one neat little package. Not worth anything ever but fun to read.

Ive never tried to estimate the value of my collection. I have so many books its just nuts. LOADS of crap, LOL, that just isnt worth much at all. Like I have the entire run of West Coast Avengers. Whoop dee freakin' doo! But I got some goodies in there too. I got the every Ghost Rider book known to man. Love the Rider especially when they revamped him, got rid of the stupid jump suit, gave him the Penance Stare and made him cool.
