justmorphs 11-21-2008, 10:50 PM Hey my name is Jimmy-actually signed up yesterday but didnt bother to give a formal intro, my fault-
been keeping reptiles for many years now and ball pythons for a couple of years now-this is my fourth season breeding-working with mostly basic morphs right now-both codoms and recessives (caramels, pin, lessers, pastel, spider, axanthic, etc)
in addtion to the balls, i do have some more display type animals such as an amazon basin emerald, fly river turtle, and numerous large tropical freshwater fish (monsterfish such as arowanas, stingrays, plecos, cichlids etc).
i have met a lot of cool people over the years in dealing with ball pythons and hopefully i will get to meet some more.
thanks Jimmy

jknudson 11-21-2008, 11:23 PM Welcome, nice fish collection!
I used to have a Silver Arowana about 15in... also trimacs, barred midas from Big Head lineage, Carpinte, etc.. I really like your rays...always wanted to keep them, but for the size tanks they need...never wanted to blow that much money on them.
justmorphs 11-21-2008, 11:29 PM thanks Larry for fixing the pic, sorry again
Jason, i used to have barred midas from big head lineage too-a few years ago, barred midas were one of the holy grails of the central american cichlid world, i paid a ridicolus price for one of jeff rapps first available F1 barred midas (from wild lineages)

I think mine was F3...outbred to non "Big Head" lineages... but still carried his genetics... I raised up a group of 6 and kept the nicest male. All came from Ken Davis as did my trimac pair.
justmorphs 11-21-2008, 11:51 PM Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

i wish i had some more room to raise cichlids again. had to downsize quite a bit to make room for snakes. had some huge and rare centrals a few years ago, from large haitiensis to pea**** bass. got any pics of your trimacs? had a couple of large males too.

I don't...old computer crashed, and I don't have the fish anymore either, I gave them to a friend when I moved in October. He has 5 different spawns growing up right now.
My real passion is for saltwater reefs, but the reptiles take all my time and money now.

Nice pics. I was looking over the fish and a blue tree pops up! He's cool you still have him?
I used to keep fish too. Not nearly as elaborate as your collection. I just had a few tanks going with whatever oddball stuff caught my eye. I had a few weird plecos. Love the plecos. I had a bunch of clown loaches, always liked them. Had some discus.
I used to work in a pet shop and people were always shocked at how big plecos can get!
I tried Oscars for a little while since they were fun and had a lot of personality for a fish. But whooooo are they dirty!

dude
next time post a "sandwich and a soda" warning before luring innocent bystanders to a collection of photogs like that...
beautiful pisces bro ! apparently moved by plecostomas (spelling?) love the rays and the discus, arrowannas were impressive, did they mate for you ?
if they did, that had to be something to behold.
we had a thread awhile back about fisheads converting to herps.
great stuff,

Varanus99 11-22-2008, 09:35 PM I know where Baldwin is, sure. Yeah I worked at 2 shops both on Long Guyland
I worked at Gardener's Village Pet Shop from 86-89 and at The Pet Barn in Franklin Square from the rest of 89 to 91.
Gardeners Village didnt have much. The Pet Barn was a fully stocked shop. We had everything from chinchillas, to parrots to albino burmese to reef tanks. It was a great, fun place to work. I learned a TON working there and also got first dibs on lots of choice animals. I met wholesalers, some breeders and kinda got my first taste of the other side of the hobby besides just the random accumulation of creatures.
I remember the all mighty Diatom. Saved our neck more than once when some of the big boys decided to redecorate.
We had some arrowannas. Some pretty big ones. I never had them myself but they sure were cool.

justmorphs 11-23-2008, 01:35 PM thanks everyone for the comments
i don't have many of the fish anymore-some have passed on and others were sold-same with the tree monitors, sold all of them after getting into ball pythons.
the tree monitors required huge cages, and having only 6 tree monitors (bohemei, macaraei, prasinus, reisingeri -probably all spelled wrong) took up the whole room. each needed a 5' tall cage.
With fish, had 13 tanks at one time, with the smallest being a 75 gallons.
I still have the large silver arowana (they did lay eggs several times), some of the plecos, and as for stingrays just marble motoros left. i do miss having all the fish, but they require so much time and care-makes keeping ball pythons relatively easy. i would spend my entire weekend doing maitenance and water changes on all the tanks.
right now the room is being used for ball pythons-have about 60 or so adult/subadult snakes and about 40 hatchlings from this year. this takes up most of the time and financial resources right now.
thanks everyone again, Jimmy
