Beautiful birdies! Thank you for thinking of them this winter. A lot of places, it's been rough for the local wild fuzzies to find food with all the snow. I'm sure they very much appreciate you.

even more than you know - as I will put out a dish of mealworms on the warmer days.....
we always have stuff for the birds (and the opportunistic tree rats LOL) usually there is a thistle sock, suet cakes 2 long feeders and 2 seed bells hanging from the awning over the deck....
the most abundant birdies visiting have been the downy woodpeckers and chickadees-they just are too fast for me to focus on, yet....

Thanks everyone. I'm trying to get the hang of this camera, but I'm not OCD, so it isn't a "must do" thing for me, yet. :lmao:

Everyone thinks goldfinches leave for winter... They just go drab to blend in with the winter landscape. I love feeding the birds - they are very calming to watch.

Nice shots...

Nice pics Kare! I like the second one. You must have taken them on different days because I can't believe those finches could eat HALF a sock's worth of thistle seed between shots! :lmao:

Kare, do those thistle socks hold up pretty well. I've been considering hanging a couple. I'm a year round bird feeder myself.

The socks do great as long as the tree rats don't get to them. The rats prefer the feeders with sunflower seeds and have left this one alone. Its been up since last spring. (and refilled countless times....LOL)

Yeah, like Kare said, they're made of nylon and hold up really well, but are a pain to fill. Ever try pouring fine seed out of a 5-8 lb bag into a floppy sock...LOL? It ain't easy!

That's EASY. ANY pan, dish, old used toliet bowl, etc filled with bird seed (especially sunflower seeds...black or the bigger gray stripe...or peanuts) will have every tree rat in an eight block radius fighting over who can stuff their face the most. And then, if you DON'T keep it filled, the furry moochers will be climbing the screens on your house looking for where some more seeds might be hiding...:lmao::lmao:

Then I can just feed em right off the back porch! Right out of my hand!

I never understood why people dont like squirrels in their yards....

I like the Avian variety too though, dont get me wrong, I always had a fascination with the humming birds:master:

I USED to like squirrels and had a dish out to feed them too. But then, if I let it go empty, they would climb on the bird feeders and knock them down...breaking them open...chewing holes through the wooden ones. Nice bird feeders ain't cheap. After that they started to chew through my wooden soffits and take up residence IN my attic! It took a while before I figured out how to catch them....caught SIX of the squatters in my attic and had to patch the the hole while on a ladder 14' up...in the winter. Now I have a slingshot, but my aim needs improving. :lmao:

I like squirrels too but you DO need to keep them fed in order to keep them out of things you DON'T want them in, and that can be expensive as they eat a LOT :D. I used to use a pellet gun for the tresspassers. If you can trust that they're clean they make good 'tic food.

My neighbors are like 50' away, so I don't need to be seen hunting down rogue squirrels with what looks like a high powered rifle (to the neighbors) and have the cops come calling...lol. I figure I'm pretty safe with the slingshot as long as I don't take out anyone's window. :lmao:

It's still in the works (heh, heh, heh, heh:devil:). Just gotta finish some other projects. Besides, I don't think the launcher would work as well with 2 feet of snow on the deck.
