I bought a 15 tub rat rack a week ago. It came with the watering system - they are all brass Edstrom Vari-Flo Valves. It's the first time I've dealth with valves. Once I filled it up and flushed the lines a bit I needed to adjust the valves. A couple were leaking and a couple were too tight.

My question - what do you use to adjust the valves? I used needle nose plyers, but they are scratching up the brass. Is there a tool that they sell somewhere to do it?

Or should I just stop being a noob and be more careful?

I use needle nose pliers to adjust mine and I just don't worry about scratching the brass. It's not going to hurt the valves doing it that way. I've been doing it for years and all my valves are fine. Other than the ones that just start leaking from sedimentation getting in the lines.

I'd recommend you run the water through a 200 micro sedimentation filter. The vari-flow valves can be a real pain when they clog up.

I use a pressurized system and have my sedimentation filter before my depressurize valve.

I've only had to fool with mine when they are new to get them set...and I've always been able to just use my fingers to adjust them...never had to mess with them so far to know if they get harder to turn later on....hope I don't
