View Full Version : What I did last weekend
FloridaHogs 11-22-2008, 11:50 AM Took the fam on a mini vacation last weekend. We just went to a condo for a few days, but it was nice. How many of you remember the Animal Planet show "The Little Zoo theat Could"? Well, that is close to us, so we went there. Not a big zoo, but decent. All of the animals seemed to interact. They were aware we were there if that makes any sense. I won't bore with all of the pics, but here are some of the reptiles.

FloridaHogs 11-22-2008, 11:56 AM There were rabbits loose all over the zoo, they followed us wanting food.

We had some major excitement. This is the first tiger cage we walked up to first thing that morning. I believe we were the first in the zoo.

What you don't see between the two pics is that she charged us through the fence. Big roar and everything! Very very intimadating. We found out later that she stays out at night and is put up during the day because she has this thing against men. So she was actually charging my hubby! There was only about 6ft seperating her fence and the fence we were standing behind.
Now for the highlight of ALL highlights--------BABY TIGERS!!!!

We got to pet them and interact with them thru the fence.
My kids petting a tiger! :)

FloridaHogs 11-22-2008, 01:46 PM It was a nice get away. We are going back on the 7th to play with some new baby tigers. This time the kids will get to go in the nursery and sit down for 30 min and really play with some 8 week old babies. The tigers in the vid are 3 months and 30 lbs. At 35 lbs they are not allowed to interact with the public anymore.
JChandler 11-22-2008, 02:36 PM Very cool trip Jenea...looks like a good time!
I saw that show. Looks like they made a gret come back. A lot of good pics there. As for the beach pics...............I think I hate you now:lmao:

Great mini vacation. That zoo looks like a great place to visit. I'm sure your son is very excited about 30 minutes of quality time with some baby tigers.
Lovely beach as well.
Looks like it was a good time! Went to the beach here in Maryland today and it was 31 and windy, almost as warm as what you had...... :)
Larry 11-22-2008, 08:01 PM What an awesome trip looks like you guys had a lot of fun. I would have loved to have seen those white tigers that close.. Wow I would have wigged big time if that big ol' girl charged me..
Looks like a pretty nice place too.
Varanus99 11-22-2008, 09:42 PM Gotta be a good zoo they have blue tongues :)

I believe you are correct on the dragon. The only beef I had with the reptile section was that the anaconda was in the same viv with the burmise. Burms were in the water and the condo was on the perch. Other than that, it was alright.
Passion4Pythons 12-13-2008, 01:18 AM SHOTGUN!
where is that? i think you should take me next time you go ahha.
that looks like a fun :)

FloridaHogs 12-13-2008, 10:04 AM They were great! Still being bottle fed. They are Bengal Tigers, but a rare snow color (at least that is what we were told) They had big ole blue eyes! It was awesome!! We were there when they fed the adults, and got to see and here some tiger fights! You feel that roar to your bones!!

Chris 12-13-2008, 10:17 AM Nice Vacay Shots! looked liked you had a blast.
FloridaHogs 12-13-2008, 10:43 AM Thanks Chris, it was a blast. This place is only 45 minutes away, so it made for a nice weekend!
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought this place was in Louisiana.http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff315/QuigsPlace/scratch1.gif
FloridaHogs 12-13-2008, 10:49 AM Nope, the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo. They were hit the hardest by Ivan, and then had to evacuate for Katrina and stuff. Katrina reached a lot further than LA. It is a shame that is all the media focused on....
norsmis 12-13-2008, 11:14 AM Great pics Jenea!!! I wish we had something like this close enough to drive to. Too dang cold up here in the frozen tundra....

Thanks Janea, I do remember seeing the program but for some reason thought it was in LA. For all the trouble they went through to save everybody they seem to have made a great comeback.
FloridaHogs 12-13-2008, 11:27 AM Yeah they have. They just broke ground last month on the new land that was donated to them.

Now that is AWESOME!!! Something those kids will always look back at I would think. I know I would if I was able to pet a baby tiger and then later on to see the cats at mature size would be so cool!!!! Thanks for all the great pictures :yourock:
FloridaHogs 12-13-2008, 01:29 PM Thanks John!
