Don't know if anyone here produced any of these before, but these popped out probably 6 months ago. I just think they're just beautiful What do you think?

LMAO! I'm actually trying to selectively breed them so I don't really feed off many, but when I do, I'd agree with you there...

Could be called Fawn aswell I guess... I just thought due to the fact that they have the "Red" eyes found in Albinos, they are probably a form of T+ Albino...

I've heard the term fawn before, but not Caramel.... hope they taste better!

Fawn is actually a combination of the agouti gene with either the pink eye dilute or red eye dilute. It's been a while since I've thought about rat genetics so I can't remember which one exactly, but that would be where the red eyes are coming from.

Hey Chris, I noticed a while back that Ya'll have put a good bit of time into rat genetics..Question/s
Are there types/populations bigger, better and more productive than the others..We of course would like to get the most bang for the buck..
Thanks..

I get those in my mouse colony all the time! I only have albinos and hoodies for rats.

Off the top of my head the only things I really look to avoid are the white spotting/high white and russian blue genes. The white spotting/high white gene seems to be more susceptible to carrying megacolon along with it. Russian blues tend to have a hard time giving birth. Aside from that, it's really just holding back your breeders from large litters -- both males and females.

i had some a few years back....wanted to build a colony out of them...but ended up feeding them off.

We get quite a few of these. We call them "champagnes"(we are rat illiterate when it comes to what they are actually called). Ours are black eyed and the males get enormous. We are using several of them as breeders and we have a couple near 700grams. Lately we have been getting this color in hoodeds and almost Berkshire marked babies.

Have a wide variety here too. My guy I get rats from at times has a group of Blues. They are beautiful (as rats go) but I prefer the hooded rats when it comes to breeding.

When i was breeding rats a few years ago i had a female that was a caramel hooded :) she was my favorite, and always had huge litters!

That may be what's called "Amber". Pretty rats - I have a few of them here. They're redder than what I'd consider "Fawn".

I have a wide variety of rats - when I do need to pick some up, I have a weakness for keeping cute ones for breeders. This go round I keep back a little fawn girl with curly hair. I just hatched out some agouti hoodeds a couple weeks ago - they are adorable!

My favorite fawn comes to the front of the tube to bite me each time. So I just offer her a treat and now she waits for me to feed her. Funny girl...

You're more lenient than me....bitters get the fast track to cozy up with a python...:lmao:

She is a great mom and had big litters, lol. Now that she is expecting a treat, she has forgotten that she wanted to nibble on me....
