View Full Version : Vision Cages?
ReptileMan27 11-23-2008, 02:10 PM Does anybody here use vision cages?, if so what do you think of them?. I have always really liked the look of them but sadly they expensive. I however can get them locally from a dealer so that saves the high shipping. I am considering getting a couple at some point but wanted to know everyones thoughts on them?.. Are they worth the money?
tokaysunlimited 11-23-2008, 04:28 PM You getting them from Albany Jay?
Personally i dont like there larger cages because they sag ALOT!
Also i am personally not crazy about the heat lamp cut outs.I have seen and had alot of them char and bubble on the plastic rim that holds them in there.

Are they those really thin cages?
Where you can put your hand up to the plastic and see it from the other side because they are so thin?

Good question :yessir: as I was wondering about them as well possibly getting a couple of the 400 model vision cages. I like the looks but not sure how they are about heating also??
Larry 11-23-2008, 04:43 PM I don't have any Vision cages but I do have a Vision rack that I don't really care too much for..
Varanus99 11-23-2008, 04:47 PM Not crazy about Vision cages. They were the first so they get a lot of recognition. But I think their are better cages out there.
First, I dont like sliding glass doors. I like swing doors. Im just funny like that. I like being able to access 100% of the cage and not play hide and seek around glass doors. Plus I tend to prefer particle substrates and that gets stuck in the tracks which I hate.
Visions have these little nooks under and over the doors that snakes like to wedge themselves into which can be a pain.
And like Tokay said Ive seen my share of fried cage vents. Plus I think their are too many vents, too much venting. And yes they are thin.
They arent HORRIBLE cages but for the money I think you can do better. I would check out Animal Plastics. I have a couple of their cages. They have all the good things you are looking for from a Vision and none of the bad. Plus you can customize them to some degree based on your needs. If you like sliders, they got sliders. If you prefer swing doors, they got that. They will install lights and heat for you if you wish. And they use what I consider the perfect amount of venting. Just enough but not too much. Price is very good I think and the quality is superb.
Only downside, if you consider it a downside, is they come unassembled. You put them together yourself. But everything is there for you and all the holes are predrilled. I got a big one and it took me about 20 minutes to screw it together. No biggie. I have a about 10" of dirt in this thing and its NOT sagging! Rock on.

I have a AP T-13 with sliding glass. I see what you mean first hand about trash getting into the tracks. I hate that. I didn't give much thought about the swinging doors. I may try another AP cage with those type of doors. They do have more heating options. Thanks for sharing Big V

I couldnt stand it. I love me swingin' doors.
Especially when you have a wild man on your hands that you're trying to catch and hes running back and forth and you're playing with doors! Of course you could slide them out but just swingin' open is simply delightful.
If you do decide to go with AP order well in advance. Last I checked they were a little backlogged.

Yeah I can see sliding doors being a issue there and I know AP is always backlogged it seems  but WELL WORTH IT!!!
BryonsBoas 11-23-2008, 05:19 PM We've been using Vision model #400 cages for the last 2 years. I won't say I love them but I definitely don't hate them. I had Neos prior to these and those I hated. The Visions work really well for us and the few minor drawbacks aren't enough to discourage me from continuing to use them.

I stopped by Tom(the owner) warehouse today and bought some frozen rodents and few other things from him..

How do you heat them or what do you use Bry??
BryonsBoas 11-23-2008, 05:37 PM I use the 17" x 24" heat pads from Bean Farm. There are the same as and made by the same company as heat tape. Working out just fine.
Sidviciouser 11-23-2008, 06:02 PM I have a boaphile 421D and I love it. Keeps the temp and humidity perfect for my setup and they stack and look nice.
DO NOT get a vision cage. I purchased one when I first got into snakes, and it sucks. The sides bowed after two days, there is a lip under the doors where snakes can relieve themselves and it is hard to clean, and they don't hold heat very well.
Check out Boaphile or Animal Plastics. You won't be dissapointed with them.
Cornball 11-23-2008, 07:43 PM I think they are too expensive!!
ReptileMan27 11-24-2008, 01:51 AM I think they are too expensive!!I wont argue that
KrazyBlood 11-24-2008, 02:10 AM I wont argue that
lol. exactly! Plus they have a lot of groves and too thick. Thick for nothing as they are hallow:cool:
snakebite 12-28-2008, 03:40 PM ok so i use visions ive got the 28 by 24 by 24 for my gtp's and i currently own three of the 72 by 28 by 18 and dont have anything in them but they worked well for the boas i had i sold the 72 by 30 by 18 this was great for big snakes but i agree they all sagg a bit and own one ofthe 48 by 28 by 18 witch is a nice size cage and the 28 by 24 by 12 witch fits right on top of the gtps cages and makes a good king snake display. but i am selling all of them except the gtps cages the animals i keep now dont need those enclosures i can se them up in a tub for not even a 10th of the cost. they make good display cages but for function it isnt worth the money . i was ganna set up bloods and fwc and bulls and carpets in the 4ft visions there 400 a peice and i would have needed 8 to start and then when i get more of those 4 speices i would have to have alot more.... i went out and got a tub that is 4ft by 2 by 2 works great and only cost me 30 bucks deffinetly doesnt look as pritty but i dont care. and to be honest in my opinion the visions only look good if there stacked up one siting on the ground or on a stand just doesnt look right trust me i know haha
