JChandler 03-15-2010, 07:18 PM Surprised I found these two today seems a little early here but we have had a decent week of warmth, the quick snapshots are kinda crappy but in my defense I was working...

TnT Reptiles 03-15-2010, 07:27 PM Cool stuff Jeff. I wish I could find things like that in my area!
Melanie 03-15-2010, 07:27 PM Looks like the first one had a recent meal! Just a shadow of a bump left...
Cool finds!
JChandler 03-15-2010, 07:33 PM Thanks Trevor and Melanie
Looks like the first one had a recent meal! Just a shadow of a bump left...
I also was wondering if it was the start of an ovulation, pretty high up on the body but :dunno:
Have heard a couple of frogs down in the swamp last night here so there is a good chance they are out eating....
Sputnik 03-15-2010, 07:35 PM Cool find this time of year!
Melanie 03-15-2010, 07:46 PM I also was wondering if it was the start of an ovulation, pretty high up on the body but :dunno:
That was my initial thought but it does seem pretty high. But I don't know squat about em so... :dunno:
JOHNS6068 03-15-2010, 08:01 PM Nice find this early...
Very cool!! Nice early season find!
JChandler 03-15-2010, 08:58 PM Thanks everyone, hopefully stuff will be coming out early...better chance to get into areas before the ticks and the weeds all come back to life

Me either really other than every time I have attempted to grab one I got musked and that isn't a scent I wanted following me around all day at work...lol
Crucifer 03-15-2010, 10:24 PM Nice!!
Mrs. Sputnik 03-16-2010, 12:45 AM Sweet finds
xanaxez 03-16-2010, 10:08 AM Great find Jeff, i agree.. it does still seem a little early to be seeing those guys out. must be the abnormal warm weather you're having lol.
FRoberts 03-16-2010, 04:05 PM Jeff I have seen eastern's out with snow on the ground....an area by my home has piles of rocks and shingles and they come out to sun themselves even when there is snow on the ground, we know less about herps IMO then we think....I have seen eastern painted's and bog turtles in the winter as well...and for the record Jeff..tic's never sleep...I have gotten them on myself AT 35-40 degrees, maybe in the most cold of winter they have no choice...nasty little things ...:machinegun::machinegun::machinegun:
JChandler 03-16-2010, 08:21 PM Thanks everyone
and for the record Jeff..tic's never sleep
I've gotten them this time of year also but that is my story and I'm sticking to it....lol
FRoberts 03-16-2010, 08:25 PM I've gotten them this time of year also but that is my story and I'm sticking to it....lol
I was pheasant hunting and it was 35 degrees and pulled over 20 deer ticks off myself. I was like WTF shouldn't these damn things be dormant.
I hate them and also got the vaccine, they the turn around and take it off the market....I was like...hope there's nothing wrong with that stuff...he he....
I also despise snake mites....
Larry 03-16-2010, 08:26 PM Yea man thats an early find. Garters seem to be the early worms for the season..
surfinball 03-17-2010, 10:32 AM Cool finds.
SNSnakes 03-17-2010, 11:05 AM Nice pics! I think they turned out well considering the subject matter. The garters around here never stay still long enough for a pic! Very cool that they are out right now...Puxatawny Phil was WRONG (that flea bitten rodent)...looks like an early Spring! :lmao:
JChandler 03-17-2010, 07:27 PM Thanks everyone:cheers:
Frank I agree, snake mite, fleas, chiggers, mosquitoes and ticks are all things I think escaped directly from hell in my opinion...lol
Scott it was trying to warm itself on a piece of cardboard and it might have been 50 degrees at noon when I found it so my guess is it hadn't been out for to long, the smaller one took off for cover as soon as I started moving sticks away from it....
Nice find while you were at work.
That IS a little high for an ovulation Jeff. They're just barely thinkin' about sex this early in the year. Then again, I'm about 400 miles north of you too.
And you got two different kinds also :)
JChandler 03-17-2010, 10:15 PM I figured it was to high....lol
They were about 5 inches from each other, maybe they are creating some hybrids....
Hell when I have seen them before this time of year the smaller males were breeding the slower still thawing out females before they woke up completely in semi controlled spaces...then again I can't say I have seen them out wandering this early like that in the complete outdoors....
