we took lucky out back and buried him under a tree in the back yard while we were out there gabby screams wait dad and runs in the house so mom went off to see what she was doing a few mins later she comes out with a note that says i love you lucky and a pic out of a reptiles mag of a big sulcatta she told me the pic was so he wouldnt get lonely it is amazing how a 5 year old can bring a grown man to tears im sure its the first of many heart breaks for her but what a crappy first ( theres not even a boy i can kill to make her feel better) that i could deal with but this is rough for me

Chris, I am so sorry to hear that! I know that it's absolutely no consolation, but have heard the same thing before from other people.. dogs think that tortoises are a great chew toy. I hope that you can get her another one, and that will help her with her grief. I know you can't replace Lucky, but mabey at her age a new one will help?

Daughters are the only one that can do this to a guy man. One tear in the corner of her eye and ours are welling up. Best wishes man. Now, mine can kick my ass. Hope your little girl feels better soon.

( theres not even a boy i can kill to make her feel better)

That would make it easier for ya wouldn't it Chris :D.

A couple people have suggested a new one. Give her some time and see what she thinks.

Sorry for your family's loss. It is amazing how such a large part of our hearts are overtaken by our animals, so quickly.

What a tragedy in a little girls life. Good thing is they usually heal up pretty quickly at that age.

I hope she does decide she'd like a new tort. I'd love to see another pic of her happy reaction to a new pet.
