View Full Version : Ship Fed Ex??
Make sure you are Verified to ship Live animals. I had a pretty pricey order coming to me and got stick in Indy because it was flagged cause the box was labeled perishable. So they looked into it to find out the shipper wasn't verified to ship Live animals. Once they found out it was a snake they halted the shipment and are dealing with it through the legal department. I have got the run around with Fed Ex for the past few days they still have the snake. The Shipper who I wont name cause he was kind enough to work with me and refund me has been shipping through fed Ex for years and never had a issue but he also never got certified.:nono: I'm glad he worked with me and is refunding me but I feel bad for his lost that and I was still looking forward to this order for some time and finally got into a project i had been wanting into. Now I'm waiting again.
Another Tip make copies of your document stating you are verified shipper and include them in a packing slip with the package that way if the question comes up you can tell them to look at that and they will have the info right away cause I have heard of this happening to known verified shippers as well.
I guess this is all risk of shipping your snakes just wish there was a reliable shipper that stated clearly they would ship live snakes cause I feel I'm always at risk when shipping or receiving a snake cause nothing clearly states they ship snakes except Delta but to get certified to do that is a job and a half.
bondo 03-25-2010, 07:45 PM That sucks man. It's good you got your money back though. When I have snakes shipped to me I tell the shipper if you won't ship through SYR I won't buy. One reason is because of the certification needed for Fed Ex. The other reasons are because SYR has always been cheaper shipping to my area and Fed Ex delivers here after 4 PM and UPS delivers at 10 AM. I am not sure why but that is the way the two companies do it in my area.

I 'm the opposite as you Bondo....
I will ALWAYS take Fedex over UPS SYR
I WILL take in snakes shipped through DYR, but I would like them to be certified through Fedex as well. That way I KNOW they know what they're doing.
I cant comment on the time frame of getting snakes in between companies, I havent had trouble with either, but know it varies from region to region.
JAG-I have to print that paper off now that you say something. I had troubles shipping last time even though I'm certified. My Fedex Representative advised me it's a good piece of paper to have.
Hope everything works itself out, and glad the shipper handled it so well with you, but shame on him.

Yeah i wish i could use SYR but the Omaha Hub here wont allow any snakes at all.

That is weird, I thought SYR worked everywhere. I thought that was the agreement between Chad and UPS.

It's possible the Omaha hub has no idea of the agreement between SYR and UPS.... :dunno:

Yeah when I brought it up to them they had no idea what i was talking about and stated that it specifically says on there site and the shipping requirements they do not ship snakes.

That means they have no idea what SYR is or the agreement they (UPS) are supposed to honor.... it's pretty typical of some drop off UPS stores too, they have no idea what their own company shipping policies are....

I would contact ProExotics and make them aware of this. They may be able to get it straightened out. I am verified/certified through both fedex and ups, and in both cases I have account #'s. When I ship they just pull up the # and that's about it. I have actually had more trouble with delta even though I have been a verified shipper for many, many years. But since the northwest/delta merger it has been a real pain to use them.
2kdime 03-25-2010, 09:31 PM To be honest I have trouble when I go to my hub.
They had to make phone calls...
Said my account number didnt mean anything to them.
I went over all of it with my rep. A long as you take your papers with your from Fedex everything should work out ok.
Probably best to call ahead and visit your local hub to establish some type of familiarity with them and your shipping practices to ensure no problems in the future:yessir:
JChandler 03-25-2010, 10:47 PM I've been certified through Fedex for a couple of years now and I have used them maybe three times...lol
I used UPS for all the lizards in the past with no issues so when the 'agreement' with SYR came out and people wanted that over Fedex because of price I never objected...good service all the way around for me so far...
Best of luck....

That's why I drop all my SYR shipments off at my local Office Depot. They get picked up at 8 pm, so I can wait to package up the animals later in the day for less time in the box, and I just walk in, drop the package off at the copy center desk - no questions asked. Check with your local Office Depot or Staples (both are suggested by SYR as places you can drop off your shipments) to see when their last next day air pick-up is.
At MY Office Depot, they only pick up Next Day Air shipments on their last pick-up.
2kdime 03-26-2010, 11:18 AM Good to know.
My local Fedex "stores" no longer accept packages with snakeys, I have to make the 30 minute trek to the hub.
BUT, like you, the package is dropped off later in the day so they spend less time in the box.

Art In Scales 03-26-2010, 11:29 AM We use SYR for most shipments and haven't had any problems yet. We are FedEx certified and always put a copy of our contract in the box if we are using FedEx so that if anything happens along the way the first thing they see when the box is opened is the contract.
We are also a known shipper with Delta. We haven't had any problems with them either except for the Atlanta office seems to have trouble understanding that people need to inspect the shipment BEFORE they sign. We've had 2 shipments to Atlanta, the first one wouldn't bring the box out to them until he signed for it. The guy at the desk was threatening to ship the box back if he didn't sign first. The customer had to get a manager before they would bring the box out. The last shipment was brought out to the desk, but they wanted a signature before he opened it. He ignored them and opened the box first.
