OK I am preparing a 3x2x2 cage for an adult JCP (fingers crossed). I am undecided on how to do a climbing branch. I was thinking PVC in a free standing style so it would be easy to clean. The problem is, I can't quite figure out how I want to do it. Do any of you have pics of how you have done your "branches"

Here is the enclosure so far

I don't have any pics or as nice of a cage but I started using Greg Maxwell's way of hanging branches and love it...

I admit I had to google the tree but what I read said the sap is reported to be toxic...

Shoot, that leaves me with Crepe Myrtle or Tulip Poplar trees that are readily available. Unless I can convince my dad to let me prune his Sycamore or Magnolia.....bah....off to google I go....

PVC works fine, I just used the closet rod sockets to support them. check out here - http://www.moreliapythons.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10480 for a little how to. My adult JCP rarely uses his perches unless he's cruising around. PS you might have to sign up on those forums to see the post but its worth it.

I really like the burning technique on the pvc. Very nice and a twisted playground it is but cool as hell!

You can kinda get the general idea of it in the picture.

I basically made a ladder out of pvc. I got one of those pvc cutters and guesstimated the height and built a little pvc ladder with end caps.
kind of like this but on a bigger scale.

Does it strech across the cage, or just lean up against the side?

Do you use it for the asthetics or humidity or what? I guess why that over something like aspen?

The one pictured stretches across the tub. The one I built leaned up against the back of the cage and was at an angle held up by the front of the cage. I have one on the cooler side one on the hot.

pretty sure the sycamore is an acer. (genus acer) although common names can be screwy around the world, if it is in fact an acer (maple complex), it should be safe.

Both I guess. Holds humidity better than something like aspen. Carpets don't need a ton of humidity but it doesnt hurt to have something that can hold it especially when they start to go into shed.

Go get clear pvc cleaner, the stuff you use before you glue it...will take the chrome off a trailer hitch so make sure you do it outside.

Lacquer thinner or goof off will remove it also along with brake clean, carb cleaner and contact cleaner......

Thanks Jeff. Am I wasting my time if I plan on "burning" the PVC? Will the burning process remove the barcodes and such?

Burning will take off the top layer so it should...

Any tips or tricks to burning the PVC, and do you burn the joints just like the straight sections?
